Catholic Church Pays for Magic Mushroom Therapy

Chuck Lovett – a 63 year-old man from Pennsylvania – was sexually abused by Catholic priests when he was 12 years old, and had been struggling mentally because of it ever since.

Last year though, he convinced The Roman Catholic Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown to pay for him to obtain psilocybin therapy.

Of course, the church was hesitant to pay for the treatment, and at first, they insisted that Chuck receive a referral for such treatment from a licensed Pennsylvanian healthcare provider, but that was and still is impossible since psilocybin is currently illegal in Pennsylvania.

Eventually though, after he said he was going go public with his story, they relented and said they’d provide $6,000 to pay for him to receive psilocybin therapy in Oregon.

Now he says the weight he’d been carrying for decades has been largely lifted.

“It was a beautiful, warm experience. It felt like the universe had me in its hands.”

So good for you, Chuck! And props to the Catholic Church – something I don’t think I’ve ever said before – for paying for his treatment.
