Swiss Police Seized 12kg of Ayahuasca
Swizz police recently reported that in the last year (2025), they seized 12kg (26.5 lbs) of Ayahuasca and 3.8 tons (7,200 lbs) of Cannabis!
(Pictured above is a teddy bear that apparently contained a special Cannabis surprise inside!)
Apparently they feel these plants are dangerous, and as a result, lives of so-called “smugglers” are ruined – one of whom was 80 years old.
According to ICEERS – a non-profit that aims to “transform society’s relationship with Traditional Indigenous Medicines” – ayahuasca’s legal status in Switzerland is ambiguous.
Apparently, each State or “Canton” has flexibility in establishing its own law enforcement priorities, while at the same time there also exists a federal framework, as in the U.S.
And within those frameworks, difference agencies apparently have differing opinions about ayahuasca.
They go on to say that the Federal Ministry of Public Health (OFSP) is currently reviewing several requests from Swiss healthcare providers who are seeking the right to use ayahuasca as part of their treatments.
Apparently, part of the complication of this is the examination of the source of the plants – though why that’s relevant remains unclear.
And more relevantly, they apparently cite concerns relating to the standardization of the potency of the brew.
Sure seems like it would be easy to require a lab report for each batch though, as is the case in many places with Cannabis. Don’t you think?
Anyway, if you had any plans on going to – or through – Zurich Airport with Ayahuasca on your person, you might want to think again.
