Marosa Healing Center

Iquitos, Loreto, Peru

Welcome to Marosa Healing Center!

At Marosa, we’re a family-led integrative plant-medicine village where you’re welcomed to live, learn, and heal in a supportive community rooted in Shipibo tradition. Here, you can bring your loved ones, reconnect with nature, and explore deep healing—from chronic illness to spiritual alignment—with the full breadth of Amazonian plant medicine.

We keep our groups small, with no more than 14 guests including students, so each person receives genuine attention and space for integration. You’ll have simple, comfortable, private accommodations that offer the quiet needed to rest, reflect, and make the most of your ayahuasca ceremonies and diets.

Rather than investing in luxury amenities, we invest in exceptional healers—true master practitioners with decades of experience—so that your process is guided with care, precision, and integrity. If you’re seeking a Western-style comfort retreat, we may not be the right fit. But if you’re ready to experience the depth of authentic Shipibo medicine and explore the transformative possibilities of plant dieting, you’ll find a meaningful home here.
Retreats begin every Sunday and Wednesday and can be customized week-to-week depending on your intentions. Whether you’re visiting as a curious traveler for a short stay or are ready for deep, committed work over several weeks or months, we’re here to support you.

Marosa Healing Center is owned by Maestra Angela Sanchez Rios, who has over twenty five years of experience working with Ayahuasca and is one of the most respected shamans in Iquitos. Her smiles and laughter are infectious, and she treats her patients as if they were her children. Her care is not just during ayahuasca ceremonies. She tends to your unique needs by providing many different types of medicine, including plant vapor baths and plant tonics, and prepares all of the master plant diets for those who are dieting.

My experience at Marosa exceeded my expectations. Not only was it a beautiful and peaceful place with attentive care from the staff (including delicious food prepared by Karina), I received powerful healing from the medicine through maestra Angela and maestro Fredy. Every day, I felt my connection to the plants get stronger, and I saw visions that guided me through the journey. In a short 10 day treatment, I gained important perspectives that will stay with me. I look forward to visiting again to deepen my relationship to the teacher plants.

For a spiritual experience there was a lack of cleanliness. You can decide on your comfort level needed for an experience like this. The caretakers and their children were kind and joyful. There was just too much work for the small team to manage 24/7. The Shamans were amazing and I appreciate every ceremony I had with them. I got what I needed from this journey. The issues I list below is a result of mismanagement from the owner and this being a fairly new facility. Dirty showers. Maggots hanging in the shower head (never cleaned). Shower water was unfiltered from the creek. Toilet bins overflowed for a week with soiled toilet tissue. Then children were sent to clean it, sadly. Roaches, rats, bugs - expected in the jungle. Just be prepared. Dogs need flea treatment. The dogs had fleas and one day a woman cried to the caretakers begging them to remove a worm from a dog’s head that was constantly dripping blood where we ate and relaxed. At night during ceremonies the dogs would make loud banging noises as they scratched at the fleas and hit the wood of the ceremony house. The one comfortable and clean space was my room which the caretakers checked in on and tidied regularly. However, I asked the owner, Tony, repeatedly for cloth to cover the large open windows to my room and didn’t get any. All other huts had privacy and I was not given cover which could have been taken from another empty hut. I stayed for 11 days. The website promised a small group but on day 5 a group of 26 people with their own Shaman arrived. I wished the owners would have considered introducing the existing guests to the new larger group and set expectation for the days to come. It would have given me the choice to stay or leave considering how much spiritual energy was introduced. I and the other guests were told that this larger group were on a different diet and ceremony schedule. Without notice, they participated in the same ceremony we had without dieting. The ceremony night was filled with over 30 people shoulder-to-shoulder vomiting, talking, howling, etc. They played other cultural instruments, sang culturally appropriated songs, and part of the ceremony was lead by their non native shaman. I specifically paid for Shipibo leadership and did not pay for a ceremony lead by “westerners”. The website also said Plant Diets, flower baths and other perpetrations would be created by Shamans, they were not. The lovely caretakers did everything. Being on a plant diet limits the meals we were allowed to have but there should be better nutritious options incorporated. There was no interpreter as promised. The language barrier created distance from the Shamans during ceremonies and from the team. On the first day we were given a large container of water, a bucket and a drink to induce vomiting (which was supposed to be prepared by the Shaman according to the website). Another guest had to explain what we needed to do as no one was there to interpret for us. Also, some people got welcome letters with guidelines and expectations… I and another young female traveler did not get this and it was essential. I’d like to add that facilities like this are not new to me, especially given that I spent half my life in places like this… but never this dirty. And the hospitality of the owner is in much need of improvement, needs to be more considerate of people’s boundaries and communicate clearly without being so shady. I might as well add that he was selling bracelets for a set price and I asked to only have the pendants. He charged me the same price and didn’t delivery the pendants until I got to the airport and they were not what I asked for(undone and can’t be used). At that point I didn’t care and was ready to go home. I hope others have much better facilities to support their journey.

I’ve absolutely loved my experiences here at Marosa and can’t wait to go back! As soon as my flight arrived to Iquitos Tony (one of the host) was at the airport to pick me up. It was so nice to show up and not have to stress about a single thing. Marosa is really a safe and beautiful place for healing and just focusing on yourself. It’s an awesome environment because everyone is there for similar reasons. The ceremonies are so special and the energy and experience the shamans bring with their Icaros is one of the most powerful things I’ve experienced. The shamans are amazing at being able to connect with you on another level. They are able to help when you need it and guide you through your ceremonies to have the most beneficial experiences. As soon as I showed up it felt like I was home. The location is amazing and you are really able to connect with nature. The food was delicious and probably the freshest I’ve ever eaten. I can’t wait to go back again and continue my journey with ayahuasca. Ayahuasca doesn’t always give you what you want but it’s what you need.

My bf and I went to Marosa for a 10day plant dieta program and couldn’t be happier that we made the decision to go! The centre is build on prestige white sand that used to ran a river, many of us enjoyed walking on it barefoot. Maestra Angela and Maetro Elias, along with other staff/family members and an amazing English speaking facilitator Jordan, took great care of us. We went there for both physical healing and spiritual growth, and walked away filled with peace and gratitude. This place is magical, and times we’ve soent in social isolation and solitude contributed to our blissful experience. The accommodations are rustic and humble but comfortable. The bathrooms and showers are clean. I grew to really love the cold showers there to cool off from the jungle heat. We were pleasantly surprised how fewer bugs they had there compared to another centre we’ve been to. There were 8 puppies (2-4months old) while we were there along with some other ducks and chickens roaming around, and the wild birds sounded incredible. I hope more people find this place and experience the authentic healing it offers.

Beautiful people, beautiful culture, and beautiful icaros. I have only ever experienced the glory and love of Latin American peoples once. It was here at Marosa. If you need healing Maestra Angela and her wonderful family will take care of you. God bless this place and long live the Shipibo tradition. Peace and love from a humble patron of your beautiful retreat. 10/10

Last month, I spent 9 days at Marosa with my girlfriend. It was an absolutely phenomenal experience. We went looking for both physical and spiritual healing, and we found both. Maestra Angela, Jordan (facilitator), and everyone else took genuine care of us.

The amenities / facilities were simple, unassuming, and comfortable. The climate was relatively mild (for the Amazon), with bearable heat and not too many bugs. The environment was peaceful – a great place to relax and reflect.

My experience at Mayosa Resort with Ayahuasca was nothing short of profound. Nestled in the embrace of nature, the setting itself seemed to enhance the journey inward. The shamans, with their expertise and guidance, facilitated a transformative experience, offering insights into myself and my life that I never knew existed. The food provided was not only nourishing but also contributed to the overall sense of well-being during the retreat. A special mention goes to Tony, whose constant support and accessibility ensured that every step of the journey was smooth and enriching. In summary, my time at Mayosa Resort was truly the best experience, one that I will carry with me for a lifetime.

I spent a week at Marosa and I wish I had booked for longer. This was my first ever experience with Ayahuasca and first time to Peru. I fell in love with the people at Marosa. They were so kind and attentive to my needs.
I loved how authentic the huts are constructed and there’s a hammock on your own private porch we’re you can rest and contemplate. You really are in nature experiencing the jungle, the sounds and amazing beauty.

Maestra Angela is amazing and so is Maestro Elias. The two chanting the Ikaros at the ceremony was enchanting.

I had intentions to heal my body’s pain and Mother Ayahuasca came through for me. After a week I could walk down steps, go down to the floor without assistance and sit in a lotus position without pain. For me, not having done this for years, it’s a miracle for me.
Everyone has their own journey. Mine started here. and I can’t wait to join the team at Marosa again to continue on to the next level.

I just spent an amazing week at the Marosa Healing Ayahuasca Center, and this was my second time visiting Peru and doing Ayahuasca at Marosa. Same as the first retreat I did, it was an unforgettable experience. The center is run by incredible people, Maestra Angela and her family that have put so much work and love into making it a truly sacred place. She and Maestro Elias are deeply caring and dedicated to everyone’s healing and it doesn’t take much time or effort to feel that.
The ceremonies themselves were beautifully and respectfully conducted. Both the maestros were always there, signing their beautiful icaros and making sure everyone felt safe and supported as we navigated through some pretty intense personal discoveries. It’s one thing to go into an experience like this hoping for healing, but it’s another to actually feel it in every part of your being, and that’s what happened.
The setting of the center added so much to the experience—it was cozy, welcoming, and just made you feel at ease. It felt like stepping into a peaceful bubble, away from the chaos of everyday life. The bungalows were super comfy, and everything you needed to feel at home was right there.
The food was healthy, delicious, and it felt like each meal was crafted to support our journey. There’s something about eating good food that just makes everything better, and specifically following the traditional Ayahuasca diet so we can let the medicine do its work.
Overall, my week at the Marosa Healing Ayahuasca Center was incredibly profound. It wasn’t just about the healing and the new direction I found; it was also about feeling part of a community again, being in a space where everyone is on the same journey of growth and discovery. If you’re thinking about exploring Ayahuasca, this place has the right vibe, the best people, and a genuinely transformative energy. The maestros and the whole team are just wonderful. I left feeling refreshed, clear-headed, and ready to take on my path with a new perspective. Totally recommend it!

I just spent one week at Marosa in April 2024, This was my first ever Ayahuasca experience, and it was absolutely the best experience I could have asked for. As a solo female traveller, I felt extremely safe and cared for from the moment I landed in Iquitos until the day I had to leave. When I first arrived, I was admittedly quite shy and anxious as I usually am in situations where I am unsure of what will happen. However, it did not take long at all to relax and feel totally at peace; the beautiful serenity of the jungle and the kind, laid-back attitude of the lovely folks that live at and run Marosa immediately made me feel at ease and ready to begin what would be a transformative week of ceremonies (four in total).

I would recommend Marosa to anyone who is ready to engage deeply with Ayahuasca and have an authentic, traditional experience. My only regret is that I could not stay longer, but I most definitely plan on returning in the near future.

Come to Marosa with your guard down and your heart open, and you will surely have one of the most beautiful experiences of your life.
