Family-Led Shipibo Healing Center | Ayahuasca, Plant Diets & Personalized Care in the Amazon

Welcome to Marosa Healing Center

Marosa Healing Center is a family-led, Shipibo-run plant medicine retreat for those seeking deep healing, personal transformation, and a genuine connection to traditional Amazonian medicine. Whether you’re navigating chronic illness, emotional challenges, or a call toward spiritual alignment, we offer a grounded, supportive environment to do that work safely and intentionally.

Our retreat is designed for people who want more than a surface-level experience. Here, you’re not just attending ceremonies—you’re stepping into a living tradition. Guests are welcomed into a small, heart-centered community where healing unfolds through ayahuasca ceremonies, plant diets, and daily connection with the jungle.

We intentionally keep our groups small (maximum 14 guests) so each person receives real attention, care, and space for integration. Accommodations are simple, private, and comfortable—created to support rest, reflection, and deep internal work.

Rather than focusing on luxury amenities, we prioritize the quality of care. Our team includes highly experienced Shipibo healers with decades of practice, guiding each process with precision, integrity, and compassion.

This may not be the right place if you’re seeking a luxury retreat or a casual experience. But if you feel called to work deeply with authentic Shipibo medicine—especially through traditional plant dieting—you’ll find a meaningful and supportive home here.

Retreats begin every Sunday and Wednesday, with flexible scheduling based on your intentions. Whether you’re joining for a shorter stay or committing to longer, immersive work, we’re here to meet you where you are.

About Our Lead Healer

Marosa Healing Center is led by Maestra Angela Sanchez Rios, a highly respected Shipibo healer with over 25 years of experience working with ayahuasca and Amazonian plant medicine.

Known for her warmth, presence, and deep level of care, Maestra Angela works closely with each guest, tending not only to the ceremonial space but to the full healing process. Her approach includes a range of traditional practices such as plant vapor baths, personalized plant remedies, and the preparation and guidance of master plant diets.

Her work is rooted in both strength and compassion—holding each person with the same level of attention and care she would offer her own family.

My experience at Marosa exceeded my expectations. Not only was it a beautiful and peaceful place with attentive care from the staff (including delicious food prepared by Karina), I received powerful healing from the medicine through maestra Angela and maestro Fredy. Every day, I felt my connection to the plants get stronger, and I saw visions that guided me through the journey. In a short 10 day treatment, I gained important perspectives that will stay with me. I look forward to visiting again to deepen my relationship to the teacher plants.

For a spiritual experience there was a lack of cleanliness. You can decide on your comfort level needed for an experience like this. The caretakers and their children were kind and joyful. There was just too much work for the small team to manage 24/7. The Shamans were amazing and I appreciate every ceremony I had with them. I got what I needed from this journey. The issues I list below is a result of mismanagement from the owner and this being a fairly new facility. Dirty showers. Maggots hanging in the shower head (never cleaned). Shower water was unfiltered from the creek. Toilet bins overflowed for a week with soiled toilet tissue. Then children were sent to clean it, sadly. Roaches, rats, bugs - expected in the jungle. Just be prepared. Dogs need flea treatment. The dogs had fleas and one day a woman cried to the caretakers begging them to remove a worm from a dog’s head that was constantly dripping blood where we ate and relaxed. At night during ceremonies the dogs would make loud banging noises as they scratched at the fleas and hit the wood of the ceremony house. The one comfortable and clean space was my room which the caretakers checked in on and tidied regularly. However, I asked the owner, Tony, repeatedly for cloth to cover the large open windows to my room and didn’t get any. All other huts had privacy and I was not given cover which could have been taken from another empty hut. I stayed for 11 days. The website promised a small group but on day 5 a group of 26 people with their own Shaman arrived. I wished the owners would have considered introducing the existing guests to the new larger group and set expectation for the days to come. It would have given me the choice to stay or leave considering how much spiritual energy was introduced. I and the other guests were told that this larger group were on a different diet and ceremony schedule. Without notice, they participated in the same ceremony we had without dieting. The ceremony night was filled with over 30 people shoulder-to-shoulder vomiting, talking, howling, etc. They played other cultural instruments, sang culturally appropriated songs, and part of the ceremony was lead by their non native shaman. I specifically paid for Shipibo leadership and did not pay for a ceremony lead by “westerners”. The website also said Plant Diets, flower baths and other perpetrations would be created by Shamans, they were not. The lovely caretakers did everything. Being on a plant diet limits the meals we were allowed to have but there should be better nutritious options incorporated. There was no interpreter as promised. The language barrier created distance from the Shamans during ceremonies and from the team. On the first day we were given a large container of water, a bucket and a drink to induce vomiting (which was supposed to be prepared by the Shaman according to the website). Another guest had to explain what we needed to do as no one was there to interpret for us. Also, some people got welcome letters with guidelines and expectations… I and another young female traveler did not get this and it was essential. I’d like to add that facilities like this are not new to me, especially given that I spent half my life in places like this… but never this dirty. And the hospitality of the owner is in much need of improvement, needs to be more considerate of people’s boundaries and communicate clearly without being so shady. I might as well add that he was selling bracelets for a set price and I asked to only have the pendants. He charged me the same price and didn’t delivery the pendants until I got to the airport and they were not what I asked for(undone and can’t be used). At that point I didn’t care and was ready to go home. I hope others have much better facilities to support their journey.

I’ve absolutely loved my experiences here at Marosa and can’t wait to go back! As soon as my flight arrived to Iquitos Tony (one of the host) was at the airport to pick me up. It was so nice to show up and not have to stress about a single thing. Marosa is really a safe and beautiful place for healing and just focusing on yourself. It’s an awesome environment because everyone is there for similar reasons. The ceremonies are so special and the energy and experience the shamans bring with their Icaros is one of the most powerful things I’ve experienced. The shamans are amazing at being able to connect with you on another level. They are able to help when you need it and guide you through your ceremonies to have the most beneficial experiences. As soon as I showed up it felt like I was home. The location is amazing and you are really able to connect with nature. The food was delicious and probably the freshest I’ve ever eaten. I can’t wait to go back again and continue my journey with ayahuasca. Ayahuasca doesn’t always give you what you want but it’s what you need.

My bf and I went to Marosa for a 10day plant dieta program and couldn’t be happier that we made the decision to go! The centre is build on prestige white sand that used to ran a river, many of us enjoyed walking on it barefoot. Maestra Angela and Maetro Elias, along with other staff/family members and an amazing English speaking facilitator Jordan, took great care of us. We went there for both physical healing and spiritual growth, and walked away filled with peace and gratitude. This place is magical, and times we’ve soent in social isolation and solitude contributed to our blissful experience. The accommodations are rustic and humble but comfortable. The bathrooms and showers are clean. I grew to really love the cold showers there to cool off from the jungle heat. We were pleasantly surprised how fewer bugs they had there compared to another centre we’ve been to. There were 8 puppies (2-4months old) while we were there along with some other ducks and chickens roaming around, and the wild birds sounded incredible. I hope more people find this place and experience the authentic healing it offers.

Beautiful people, beautiful culture, and beautiful icaros. I have only ever experienced the glory and love of Latin American peoples once. It was here at Marosa. If you need healing Maestra Angela and her wonderful family will take care of you. God bless this place and long live the Shipibo tradition. Peace and love from a humble patron of your beautiful retreat. 10/10

It was a truly wonderful, life-changing experience. My encounter with ayahuasca stemmed from a major mental and physical trauma I experienced in my home country. I felt that this retreat, in particular, was a place that respected plant medicine and the culture of the people who provide it, rather than just for fun. I strongly felt that the facilitators also wanted to respect ayahuasca and the people around them. This retreat provides ample support for people taking ayahuasca for the first time. This is evident not only in the moment of the ceremony, but also in the daily life of the retreat. You can feel it in various daily scenes such as the plant bath and meals. I especially recommend it to people who don’t speak Spanish. There is a solid support system in English by wonderful facilitators. They not only speak English and Spanish, but they are also sensitive to the participants’ situations and provide emotional support. I honestly don’t know about people who don’t speak English or Spanish. Ayahuasca gives you the opportunity to change yourself. However, whether you actually change or not is up to you. It’s been about a month since I had the ritual. I’m writing this review with a strong feeling that this time of integration is truly a time to confront myself and embrace change. Ayahuasca, the people who provide it, the other participants, and this very moment—for those who participate with respect for each and every one of them, it will offer a truly wonderful and irreplaceable moment. Thank you to everyone who runs this retreat. Arigato from Japan

Sinceramente, no tengo ninguna pega. Ha sido una experiencia profunda y muy sanadora. Para mí la ayahuasca es una medicina real, y en Marosa encontré el lugar perfecto para vivir ese proceso con respeto, seguridad y mucho corazón.

Words cannot do the life changing experience of spending 12 days at Marosa justice. From the kindness of the family and the way they made me feel like a part of the family to the amazing healing provided by Maestra Angela and the wisdom and experience imparted by the facilitator Mila I could not have chosen a better place to diet a master plant and experience Ayahuasca. I had an authentic Shipibo experience that I will never forget and learned so much about myself and the magic of plant medicine. Bring your trauma and weariness to Marosa and it will transform your world.

I completed my first ever two week Diet last Wednesday at Marosa. Maestra Angela recommended Ajo Sacha per my needs. During my stay, I did feel some strong effects one night in my Tambo from the plant. The ceremonies were the first Shipibo-led ceremonies for me. For me, they were pleasant but notably different from gringo-led ceremonies as I have been used to. I felt the curandero’s were effective in their rendering of treatment. I got some good stuff in some ceremonies, most of them were light in their effects but that was just my own experience. The family living on sight was very nice, Gonzalo and Karina were both very helpful. Karina provided a nice diversity of food. She also accommodated my various cooking requests. Gonzalo was quick to help with ensuring removal of any bugs in the cabins. We had a facilitator who was American and helped provide translation services. She really made the stay here superb. Her help was very beneficial to me in both making sense of some questions I had about the medicine as well as ensuring my stay at Marosa was a comfortable one. I hope Marosa is always able to have someone like that around there. I was grateful we were allowed to have green apples too. those were a life saver. The property was secluded at the end of the road and backed up to a nature preserve. The birds that lived in the trees on site were entertaining to watch throughout the day. The dogs there could become an interruption there sometimes. The five of them would sometimes break out into a barking session in the evenings sometime. Sometime after we went to bed and sometimes during the ceremony. Transport to and from the airport was prompt and on time. Not much goes on during the day around there, which is nice. It was quiet when I was here, never more than 5 people at a time. Most of the time there were just four pasejero’s. There was one night two random people from Spain just dropped in for one ceremony. All of us were dieting a plant for something and these two people that just got off the plane came into one ceremony one night and they had apparently no experience with Ayahuasca before. One of them openly admitted directly to Maestra Angela to smoking marijuana earlier that day and asker her if it was alright. The whole thing seemed weird, I didn’t like it and I thought this guy that had smoked weed was rude and disrespectful to the plant. It also felt disrespectful to those of already in the middle of our own diet. But the negatives I have to say are far fewer than the positives. Overall I had a good experience and would probably go back. But if something like that where a random pair of people pop in for one night right before the ceremony again while I’m undergoing my own diet without some prior notice….that’s a strike 2 for me and then I would not go back.
