Marosa Healing Center

Iquitos, Loreto, Peru

Welcome to Marosa Healing Center!

At Marosa, we’re a family-led integrative plant-medicine village where you’re welcomed to live, learn, and heal in a supportive community rooted in Shipibo tradition. Here, you can bring your loved ones, reconnect with nature, and explore deep healing—from chronic illness to spiritual alignment—with the full breadth of Amazonian plant medicine.

We keep our groups small, with no more than 14 guests including students, so each person receives genuine attention and space for integration. You’ll have simple, comfortable, private accommodations that offer the quiet needed to rest, reflect, and make the most of your ayahuasca ceremonies and diets.

Rather than investing in luxury amenities, we invest in exceptional healers—true master practitioners with decades of experience—so that your process is guided with care, precision, and integrity. If you’re seeking a Western-style comfort retreat, we may not be the right fit. But if you’re ready to experience the depth of authentic Shipibo medicine and explore the transformative possibilities of plant dieting, you’ll find a meaningful home here.
Retreats begin every Sunday and Wednesday and can be customized week-to-week depending on your intentions. Whether you’re visiting as a curious traveler for a short stay or are ready for deep, committed work over several weeks or months, we’re here to support you.

Marosa Healing Center is owned by Maestra Angela Sanchez Rios, who has over twenty five years of experience working with Ayahuasca and is one of the most respected shamans in Iquitos. Her smiles and laughter are infectious, and she treats her patients as if they were her children. Her care is not just during ayahuasca ceremonies. She tends to your unique needs by providing many different types of medicine, including plant vapor baths and plant tonics, and prepares all of the master plant diets for those who are dieting.

My experience at Marosa exceeded my expectations. Not only was it a beautiful and peaceful place with attentive care from the staff (including delicious food prepared by Karina), I received powerful healing from the medicine through maestra Angela and maestro Fredy. Every day, I felt my connection to the plants get stronger, and I saw visions that guided me through the journey. In a short 10 day treatment, I gained important perspectives that will stay with me. I look forward to visiting again to deepen my relationship to the teacher plants.

For a spiritual experience there was a lack of cleanliness. You can decide on your comfort level needed for an experience like this. The caretakers and their children were kind and joyful. There was just too much work for the small team to manage 24/7. The Shamans were amazing and I appreciate every ceremony I had with them. I got what I needed from this journey. The issues I list below is a result of mismanagement from the owner and this being a fairly new facility. Dirty showers. Maggots hanging in the shower head (never cleaned). Shower water was unfiltered from the creek. Toilet bins overflowed for a week with soiled toilet tissue. Then children were sent to clean it, sadly. Roaches, rats, bugs - expected in the jungle. Just be prepared. Dogs need flea treatment. The dogs had fleas and one day a woman cried to the caretakers begging them to remove a worm from a dog’s head that was constantly dripping blood where we ate and relaxed. At night during ceremonies the dogs would make loud banging noises as they scratched at the fleas and hit the wood of the ceremony house. The one comfortable and clean space was my room which the caretakers checked in on and tidied regularly. However, I asked the owner, Tony, repeatedly for cloth to cover the large open windows to my room and didn’t get any. All other huts had privacy and I was not given cover which could have been taken from another empty hut. I stayed for 11 days. The website promised a small group but on day 5 a group of 26 people with their own Shaman arrived. I wished the owners would have considered introducing the existing guests to the new larger group and set expectation for the days to come. It would have given me the choice to stay or leave considering how much spiritual energy was introduced. I and the other guests were told that this larger group were on a different diet and ceremony schedule. Without notice, they participated in the same ceremony we had without dieting. The ceremony night was filled with over 30 people shoulder-to-shoulder vomiting, talking, howling, etc. They played other cultural instruments, sang culturally appropriated songs, and part of the ceremony was lead by their non native shaman. I specifically paid for Shipibo leadership and did not pay for a ceremony lead by “westerners”. The website also said Plant Diets, flower baths and other perpetrations would be created by Shamans, they were not. The lovely caretakers did everything. Being on a plant diet limits the meals we were allowed to have but there should be better nutritious options incorporated. There was no interpreter as promised. The language barrier created distance from the Shamans during ceremonies and from the team. On the first day we were given a large container of water, a bucket and a drink to induce vomiting (which was supposed to be prepared by the Shaman according to the website). Another guest had to explain what we needed to do as no one was there to interpret for us. Also, some people got welcome letters with guidelines and expectations… I and another young female traveler did not get this and it was essential. I’d like to add that facilities like this are not new to me, especially given that I spent half my life in places like this… but never this dirty. And the hospitality of the owner is in much need of improvement, needs to be more considerate of people’s boundaries and communicate clearly without being so shady. I might as well add that he was selling bracelets for a set price and I asked to only have the pendants. He charged me the same price and didn’t delivery the pendants until I got to the airport and they were not what I asked for(undone and can’t be used). At that point I didn’t care and was ready to go home. I hope others have much better facilities to support their journey.

I’ve absolutely loved my experiences here at Marosa and can’t wait to go back! As soon as my flight arrived to Iquitos Tony (one of the host) was at the airport to pick me up. It was so nice to show up and not have to stress about a single thing. Marosa is really a safe and beautiful place for healing and just focusing on yourself. It’s an awesome environment because everyone is there for similar reasons. The ceremonies are so special and the energy and experience the shamans bring with their Icaros is one of the most powerful things I’ve experienced. The shamans are amazing at being able to connect with you on another level. They are able to help when you need it and guide you through your ceremonies to have the most beneficial experiences. As soon as I showed up it felt like I was home. The location is amazing and you are really able to connect with nature. The food was delicious and probably the freshest I’ve ever eaten. I can’t wait to go back again and continue my journey with ayahuasca. Ayahuasca doesn’t always give you what you want but it’s what you need.

My bf and I went to Marosa for a 10day plant dieta program and couldn’t be happier that we made the decision to go! The centre is build on prestige white sand that used to ran a river, many of us enjoyed walking on it barefoot. Maestra Angela and Maetro Elias, along with other staff/family members and an amazing English speaking facilitator Jordan, took great care of us. We went there for both physical healing and spiritual growth, and walked away filled with peace and gratitude. This place is magical, and times we’ve soent in social isolation and solitude contributed to our blissful experience. The accommodations are rustic and humble but comfortable. The bathrooms and showers are clean. I grew to really love the cold showers there to cool off from the jungle heat. We were pleasantly surprised how fewer bugs they had there compared to another centre we’ve been to. There were 8 puppies (2-4months old) while we were there along with some other ducks and chickens roaming around, and the wild birds sounded incredible. I hope more people find this place and experience the authentic healing it offers.

Beautiful people, beautiful culture, and beautiful icaros. I have only ever experienced the glory and love of Latin American peoples once. It was here at Marosa. If you need healing Maestra Angela and her wonderful family will take care of you. God bless this place and long live the Shipibo tradition. Peace and love from a humble patron of your beautiful retreat. 10/10

I have just returned from a two week, 8 ceremony retreat at Marosa Healing Center. This was my fourth retreat in Peru working with shamans from the Shipibo lineage. I can’t speak highly enough about the level of compassion, safety and healing that Marosa offers.

Maestra Angela and Maestro Elias are two beautiful souls; powerful, dedicated and compassionate. I felt completely safe in their hands, especially in some of the more challenging ceromonies. Their wisdom shines through, gentle yet strong in conviction, resulting in my intentions being met fully.
The wonderful staff (hey Manuel!) are always quick with a smile and a laugh. The food is outstanding, (Raquel will spoil you!); plenty to eat and beautifully prepared. They worked wonders in the kitchen.
The tambos are nice and comfortable, are cleaned regularly and bedsheets are changed every couple days.
Toilets and showers are perfectly fine. Water is pumped from a nearby pond so the water can appear slightly yellowish but no problem for washing. Just one thing – don’t drink it! Goes without saying I know but can easily be forgotten. Stick to the separate tubs of water provided in the kitchen and the maloka.
While I was there the water in the toilets and showers occasionally stopped flowing for a short period but this really wasn’t a problem. One mention to the staff and it was back on again. No big deal.

There’s a really nice sheltered area with plenty of chairs and hammocks (hammocks are also provided on the porch of most of the tambos or ones can be arranged). Ideal when the sun is strong or a heavy downpour is occuring. A good place to chat with fellow passengers or smoke mapacho.
Mapacho is provided in the maloka for all guests, as many as you’d like, which was great.
The maloka itself is really beautiful. Mattress covers are changed throughout your stay. Everything you need is provided for you; bucket, toilet paper, blankets, pillow and the aforementioned drinking water.

Tony and the facilitators (Jordan for a brief period when I was was there) are on hand or can be contacted via WhatsApp, including those who weren’t at the retreat/in Peru which was very reassuring. Extremely knowledgeable and caring. If you want extra fruit, mapacho or something else you can request this.

Marosa also offers additional plant dietas. This is discussed along with your intentions before the first ceremony. Maestra Angela will proscribe a suitable plant to accompany the ayahuasca which is usually drunk on ceremony days and usually just three cups for the retreat, although this can vary if you feel you need more. Sometimes these were forgotten or delayed a few times but it really didn’t matter. A gentle reminder was fine.
It’s really important to remember that Marosa is still growing (they spoke of various upgrades and plans for the future), so although things occasionally felt a bit relaxed or slightly unorganised (minor things only) it did not impact my stay in any way. I always felt completely safe and well looked after. If something is a little late? whatever.

One quick word about the dirt track, about an hour or so once you get off the main road, that takes you to Marosa. This is perfectly fine! It’s an adventure. Yes, at one point only, you might need to hop out and give a very quick push, but this is the jungle. This is part of why you are here.

There’s plenty more positive things I could say about this healing center but it’s already too long!
Marosa offers are an authentic, deeply healing space for you. I couldn’t have been happier; with the shamans, the staff, my beautiful fellow pasejeras, the puppies (!) and little Claudio (PaboRangers! Cuatro Brazos!) and the level and deeply felt compassion they so unselfishly offered.
I was shown something very profound in my closing ceremony; a new intention I want to work with. And Marosa is where I will continue my journey.
Lots of love to everyone involved. Forever grateful, Jonathan

I’ve spent 11 great days at Marosa and it was my first time with Ayahuasca, with Perú, with South America. I couldn’t ask for better places and experiences.
I can never thank Maestra Angela and Maestro Elias enough for what they have given me and which cannot be described in words but I still feel their benefits.
I was lucky to be well accompanied during my stay and thank you to Jordan for his presence and kindness, to Tony, Raquel, Manuel, Marie and Kayla 😉 Thank you also to my fellow travelers for our inspiring talks and shares.
I will recommend Marosa to everyone as I had one of my best experiences and memories.

As a first timer, I had a positive experience at La Marosa.

I was there for 2 weeks and my staying was holistically full of insights that were coming from the medicine, my conversations with other passengers, the walks in the jungle, being isolated and having lots of time to think about everything or not think at all… and even when I didn’t find everything I was looking for, this was a very satisfying experience.
(advice: avoid having too many or any expectations if you can).

Tony and Jordan, thank you very much for the arrangements and the small talks. Maestra Angela and maestro Elias thank you for sharing your wisdom, to El Tío thank you for playing the the drum and the maracas out of rhythm . Raquel, Manuel and the rest of the crew, thank you all for everything, you guys are awesome.

I wish you lots of success.

I recently went to Marosa for the 11 day retreat. This was my first time working with ayahuasca and I was supposed to take it 6 times, but after my second time I really felt like the ayahuasca was telling me not to return, so I listened. Even tho I didn’t take the ayahuasca again, I loved the experience at Marosa enough to stay the rest of the 11 days like I originally planned! For the remainder of the ceremonies I just meditated and listened to the Icaros, which I still found incredibly spiritual and beneficial for me. During my experiences I felt very well taken care of, and super safe. If you don’t speak Spanish I would definitely recommend making sure that an English speaking facilitator is there, Jordan was very helpful to me, and also helped me through a lot of questions and thoughts following a very powerful ayahuasca experience. Overall I would definitely recommend Marosa to any spiritual seeker!
