June 6, 2026 at 7:10 amI only had time for a weekend journey – San Pedro + temezcal, kambo, and ayahuasca – but I got to experience a glimpse of eternity so really, I was and am at Hayulima forever.
I have experienced plant medicine before in several settings, but never have I gotten to experience ceremonies with such intentionality for ritual, perfect musical accompaniment, nor such a familial atmosphere. This combination led to a journey that completely transported me in the best way. Everyone has a different plant medicine experience depending on your own needs and intentions, but Hayulima has all the tools to set you up for the strongest, safest possible connection to the universe.
Practically, Hayulima is in a beautiful location, has wonderful food (almost too delicious, as I was hoping to cut back for the weekend but constantly found myself going for seconds), cozy accommodation, and plenty of space (and blankets! and hammocks!) for quiet personal reflection. Do take the mosquito recommendations seriously: two pairs of pants, long socks, and always long sleeves! Don’t let that deter you though, mosquitoes are a small inconvenience for an opportunity to commune with the universe.
Enormous, universe-sized thank you to Salvador, Amalia, and Diana for leading such intentional ceremonies and using their voices, musical instruments, and beautiful words of prayer to connect me to my higher self, while remaining friendly, funny, kind, and welcoming to my human self. Thank you to Andres who added levity to the weekend with fun chats and stories along with grounding to the ceremonies. Thank you to the Ryans for your help with volunteering: moving hot, heavy rocks, cleaning, singing, playing music, and being exceptional liaisons. Thank you to my fellow participants – you know who you are (C, E, R, and P) – and best of onward luck on your journeys. It was truly a pleasure sharing space with all of you.

January 19, 2026 at 9:55 pmHayulima is a beautiful sanctuary for the soul. The family that holds space here are loving and kind and so attentive to each person. The grounds are jaw dropping beautiful with wild nature and stunning wildlife. The ceremonies are held with reverence and in a traditional ancestral way that feels authentic and welcoming at the same time. The way they pray and serv teaches sacred synchronicity with nature and great spirit. I left feeling rejuvenated. Not just with the wisdom the medicine shared with me but with tools for integration and a new family that has my back. I loved how they tell us that they will always pray for us and we can always call.

January 23, 2025 at 7:29 pmA great team of male and female Shaman and volunteers with lots of experience offering a safe, supportive environment for experiencing and working with plant medicines. The environment is stunning with the spacious gated site nestled in the natural beauty of the Mindo Cloud Forrest valley. The new meeting house is stunning with solid, cushioned seating enabling a comfortable ceremony experience or allowing people to lay out if preferred. The program was well balanced with sufficient time to rest, refuel with the delicious healthy food or network/ journal. The accommodation was clean and comfortable and sufficient allowing me to. get a great sleep every night. The mid week included laundry service was a welcomed surprise. All of the staff on site work hard and diligently to aid in the guest experience. Great to see the centre expanding once more to further improve the facilities.

July 4, 2024 at 12:49 pmIt isn’t really possible to articulate how incredible Hayulima is. One has to experience it for themselves. The majesty of the surrounding forest is breathtaking. The wisdom of the Shamans is clear. The plant medicine is indisputably powerful. I can’t recommend it enough for people in search of meaning, answers, or healing.
Ecuador is a beautiful country with kind people. The physical journey to the retreat is really quite interesting as someone from the flat plains of Texas. Taking a trip through the countryside always makes me feel like I’m in a dream. Hayulima is comfortably situated deep in the mountains away from the distractions of modern life. There is a peace and quiet there that most people will unfortunately never be familiar with. One thing I must recommend is that you bring long pants and bug spray as there are many insects. Other than that, the wildlife is beautiful, and I was lucky to catch a glimpse of some toucans. The weather is comfortable day or night and is never too hot or too cold.
The accommodations are simple, yet cozy. Everyone is friendly, including the staff and guests. It’s a more intimate setting than some of the other Ayahuasca retreats I’ve been to. You get to eat meals and converse with the Shamans as with anyone else. It’s amazing to talk to them and the other guests about deep topics that many people are anxious to talk to their own family about. It’s really helped me to open up more in my everyday life. The Shamans are great people with years of experience and will help you through the ceremonies. At least half of what makes the retreat so amazing are the people you meet.
As for the plant medicines, it’s saved my life. Ayahuasca and San Pedro really are miraculous. A myriad of revelations crosses my mind anytime I’m with the plant medicine, but there were two main points that I most clearly learned during my latest trip. First of all, I tend to catastrophize. Whenever I encounter life’s hardships, my mind focuses on the worst possible outcomes. I’ve learned to go with the flow and expect life to be good. Even when bad things happen, I know my spirit is strong and I’ll make it through. Secondly, I’ve learned that negativity is a choice and it’s possible to repudiate negativity through the strength of willpower. You have to banish bad thoughts and feelings from your mind deliberately. Know, however, that the plant medicines are not silver bullets. They are guides along your spiritual path. Ascending spiritually is a process that requires time and effort, but if you’re interested in putting in the work, Hayulima is definitely the place for you.

June 27, 2024 at 4:08 pmI had such an amazing, beautiful experience with the shaman Salvador. He created such a safe space for the journey I was on. I would trust him to guide my closest friends and family on their Aya journeys as well.
