How Ayahuasca Heals

Popularly known around the world as a shamanic gateway to the spirit world, Ayahuasca has traditionally been used for thousands of years as a healing medicine also. Made using two indigenous plants Banisteriopsis caapi & Psychotria viridis, Ayahuasca works by promoting massive mental and physical healing responses in the human body.

While different for everybody, no one is ever not deeply affected by Ayahuasca. In like regard, few if any people ever come away from an Ayahuasca ceremony not feeling more spiritually and vitally restored than they did before arriving.

How San Pedro Heals

A lesser-known but no less effective healing plant is a cactus called San Pedro. Like Ayahuasca, it has been utilized by Shamans for many thousands of years in shamanic healing ceremonies, and there have been numerous reports of its healing power for cancer, diabetes, and paralysis, as well as for emotional and psychological problems such as depression and grief.

The Biblical Saint Peter, whom the plant was named after, is said to be the holder of the keys to Heaven, and so the name represents an opening of a gateway for us to enter into a dimension where we can experience the world as divine.

Participants are said to be ‘set free from matter’ and ‘engage in flight through cosmic regions… transported across time and distance in a rapid and safe fashion’.

One shaman described its effects as “First, a dreamy state… then great visions, a clearing of all the faculties… then detachment, a type of visual force inclusive of the sixth sense, the telepathic state of transmitting oneself across time and matter, like a removal of thoughts to a distant dimension.”

In this way, San Pedro is said to remove our negative beliefs so the positive ones shine through and we can heal ourselves.

I visited Mother Aya in January 2020 and had a great time. Ken is no-nonsense when it comes to the ayahuasca ceremony which I really appreciated. The Shaman Alberto and his attendants are always on the look out and made things feel safe and secure. On the day of taking Sand Pedro we were served pizza in the evening and it was a super fun day. Buy the ticket, take the ride.

I spent significant amount of time researching many Ayahuasca retreat centers in Colombia, Peru, Ecuador and Brazil. Based on my findings I’ve decided to go with this facility in Ecuador and it fully met my expectations. I was looking for a more personal approach in smaller groups and I have received it. Our ceremonies were attended by 2-4 clients. Shaman was able to customize one of the ceremonies to meet my specific needs. He also provided me personalized treatment for a specific problem I was dealing with. Ceremonies are being held in a beautiful forest right next to a river. They served us delicious and hearty food , and accommodation was top notch. The climate in Macas is so pleasant that there is no need for extra days for acclimatization to high altitude (like Cusco) or hot and humid environment (like Iquitos). There aren’t any mosquitoes either. Cannot imagine better place to do Ayahuasca more comfortably.

Ken & Sun are ideal hosts. Listen to them carefully and you will have efficient and effective medicinal outcomes. Respect the shaman, yourself, and your fellow students.

Outstanding experience by every measure. Email or call Ken with any questions/concerns. These medicines are for healing, growth, and understanding. Leave party attitudes at home. Sincerity and moderate humility are helpful, and more fun! 10/10 experience.

I strongly recommend this retreat to anyone who’s looking for a positive and drastic change in their lives. For all seekers and Psychonauts––In order to find answers in life, free your soul and feel liberated from any societal or emotional structure, you need three components for healing––mother Ayahuasca, father San Pedro and the right environment (location, supervisors and the shaman). This retreat, “Ayahuasca in Ecuador,” has everything that the one may need in order to find the light in their lives. It drastically changed my life and I am forever thankful for meeting Ken and Sun. Indeed the whole experience passed my extremely high expectations. It was a very family environment and I encourage people to choose this very special retreat.

I see Ken and Sun as the heart of this healing retreat. Shaman is the guidance and Ayahuasca and San Pedro are medicines or spirits that will connect your psyche to the universal source.

    Hello,
I did a lot of research before choosing to stay with Ken and Sun in Macas for my ayahuasca retreat. One of the things that drew me was watching the video of Alberto the shaman and the chosa down by the river, I made the right choice, Alberto is an amazing shaman and the chosa is a fantastic place to facilitate the intensive healing journey.

I did three ayahuasca and one san pedro ceremony over 8 days. I can only describe this as an amazing, transformational experience in a safe and supportive environment. The ayahuasca nights were intense and enlightening and we had the opportunity to watch the ayahuasca that we would drink being prepared. The San Pedro ceremony was an incredibly healing and heart opening day and elevated my consciousness to a new level. I am still processing the whole experience a week on from the event.

As well as Sun ( An angel) who takes great care of you throughout, there is also additional support people who stay with the group through the night.

Ken and Sun are tremendous hosts and I enjoyed delicious and healthy meals during my stay. I couldn’t recommend them highly enough!

On a practical note, if you are travelling from Quito the bus is around 8 hours and is safe, high quality and only $12!

Thank you both for creating the space to heal and expand my awareness.
    David
