How Ayahuasca Heals
Popularly known around the world as a shamanic gateway to the spirit world, Ayahuasca has traditionally been used for thousands of years as a healing medicine also. Made using two indigenous plants Banisteriopsis caapi & Psychotria viridis, Ayahuasca works by promoting massive mental and physical healing responses in the human body.
While different for everybody, no one is ever not deeply affected by Ayahuasca. In like regard, few if any people ever come away from an Ayahuasca ceremony not feeling more spiritually and vitally restored than they did before arriving.
How San Pedro Heals
A lesser-known but no less effective healing plant is a cactus called San Pedro. Like Ayahuasca, it has been utilized by Shamans for many thousands of years in shamanic healing ceremonies, and there have been numerous reports of its healing power for cancer, diabetes, and paralysis, as well as for emotional and psychological problems such as depression and grief.
The Biblical Saint Peter, whom the plant was named after, is said to be the holder of the keys to Heaven, and so the name represents an opening of a gateway for us to enter into a dimension where we can experience the world as divine.
Participants are said to be ‘set free from matter’ and ‘engage in flight through cosmic regions… transported across time and distance in a rapid and safe fashion’.
One shaman described its effects as “First, a dreamy state… then great visions, a clearing of all the faculties… then detachment, a type of visual force inclusive of the sixth sense, the telepathic state of transmitting oneself across time and matter, like a removal of thoughts to a distant dimension.”
In this way, San Pedro is said to remove our negative beliefs so the positive ones shine through and we can heal ourselves.

April 26, 2018 at 3:34 pmI just completed a five day retreatreat in April, 2018, at Mother Aya. From the minute that I arrived, I felt right at home. The atmosphere at Ken and Sun’s lovely home was warm, welcoming, easy-going and relaxed. That was exactly what was needed to prepare us for the actual ayahuasca experiences. Sun prepared all of our meals with care and with love. She was sure she kept the diet cleansing while making it as healthy and delicious as possible. Plenty of good, healthy food, fresh fruit and fresh fruit juices everyday. She was also with us all night during the sessions. At the sessions I always felt watched over, cared for and cared about. Not one minute of the entire experience was ever left to chance. Our group discussion leader, Hasan, and our yoga instructor, Ana, were there with us the entire nights also throughout the actual experiences and the follow-up sesions. When I left, I felt hat I was leaving a group of friends that I was anxious to see again and soon. Thank you. The care, love and guidance which you gave us came from your hearts. That is something that cannot be fakned nor underrated in anyway.

April 23, 2018 at 11:44 amMyself and my girlfriend spent five unforgettable days here in April, 2018. As we said to Ken and Sun on our final night, it’s hard to even conceive of a more beautiful, comfortable or tranquil place to experience ayahuasca for the first time.
The meals, activities, beds and general atmosphere all exceeded expectations. We felt safe and secure for our entire stay, which is obviously very important when dealing with such potent and unpredictable medicines.
Ken and Sun went over and above the call of duty to make sure we felt at home, and Hasan and Ana (our facilitators) provided invaluable support before, during and after the ceremonies.
In short: I couldn’t recommend the retreat highly enough. Thanks Ken, Sun and the rest of the team for an experience I will hold dearly for the rest of my life 🙂

April 14, 2018 at 2:33 pmIn short, Ken and Sun’s retreat was an amazing experience, and like so many others have said, hard to put into words. I want to keep this short, but share my positive experience.
I came to the retreat with some knowledge and great interest in Ayahuasca, and was not disappointed. It was a truly traditional medicine experience. The shamans were absolutely authentic. The setting was beautiful and secluded. The medicine was strong and touched me deeply. The ceremonies have not left my mind since I left the retreat. While I was mostly interested in the ayahuasca portion before I came, no doubt the pinnacle of the experience was the San Pedro ceremony. I have never experienced something so powerful and mystical.
As Ken told me, he couldn’t guarantee anybody anything when working with ayahuasca – except that it will clean you physically and that it will touch you on a spiritual level…which is usually an extremely deep level. This proved true for myself and something I cannot recommend enough.
Much love to Ken and Sun. Again I cannot put the experiences into words but the facilities, care, and people were absolutely incredible. 6 stars out of 5. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for facilitating this experience.

April 7, 2018 at 4:44 pmMy partner and I chose Ken and Sun’s retreat after weeks and weeks of research. It was our first experience with ayahuasca and we wanted to ensure we would be in a safe and relaxing environment.
Before our arrival we were a little nervous but as soon as we arrived at Ken and Sun’s beautiful home and met them we felt excited.
Sun sat us down and told us what we could expect. She reassured us that she would be looking after us the whole time and answered all of our questions. It was clear to see how passionate she was about ayahuasca and how healing it is.
We spent the days leading up to the ceremony relaxing in the hammocks in the beautiful garden, drinking fresh watermelon juice lovingly prepared by Sun.
Nestled in the jungle by a roaring river, the chosa is perfect. There are comfortable mattresses, pillows, blankets and proper toilets!!
The ceremony felt authentic and the medicine was strong. Sun and George were excellent facilitators and made sure we were safe and comfortable throughout the night. The shaman sung beautiful songs at just the right moments which guided us deeper.
In the morning we bathed in the river which was refreshing and the perfect way to end the ceremony.
We returned to the house and had a delicious healthy breakfast. We spent the day relaxing, reflecting on our experience and preparing for the second ceremony the following day.
Ayahuasca in Ecuador, Mother Ayahuasca Retreat is the perfect place to experience ayahuasca. We definitely hope to return in the future.

March 27, 2018 at 10:32 amI cannot recommend this highly enough – the complete experience was above and beyond what I ever could have imagined. The setting is serene, the people are caring genuine, and of course the experience with the medicine left nothing to be desired. 6/5 stars if it were possible!
