The Setting

A beautiful view of Vilcabamba, EcuadorWe offer San Pedro ceremonies each week in a cozy, private, safe, and relaxing space, The countryside around Santa Isabel, Ecuador (just outside of Cuenca) is stunningly beautiful and provides the backdrop for what is sure to be a profound experience for you, as it has consistently been for us as well.

The Medicine

Slices of the powerful cactus, San PedroSan Pedro, also known as Huachuma or Wachuma, is a sacred cactus that has been used in shamanic plant medicine ceremonies for thousands of years in the Amazonian region.

It is said to be a plant teacher, and you will quickly discover why as you begin to have a conversation with the spirit of the plant, which is known as Grandfather San Pedro. Because, just a like a grandfather, he can swaddle you with a level of emotional warmth and tender affection that will touch your heart in a way you might not have even felt before, and he can also provide you with tough-love advice if it’s needed too.

The Ceremony

plant-teacherEvery day starts with a warm cup of tea of coffee and friendly conversation as we settle into the new day.

Then, around 10a.m. Steve smudges us all with white sage to clear any sort of negative energies that may be present.

Next, we sit in a small circle, and Steve shares some basic guidelines to the ceremony, and then one-by-one, we each share our intentions with the medicine. This might be as simple as “My intention is to know myself better”, or you might choose to go into more detail.

The medicine is then poured in a glass for each person, and after taking as much time with it as you would prefer, you are welcomed to drink the medicine and find a nice place to settle in.

From then on, the primary element to the ceremony is a conversation that will begin in your head between you and the medicine. You might liken this to speaking to yourself silently, although it will very likely soon be clear that the entity you’re speaking to is a very wise plant teacher who is lovingly known as Grandfather San Pedro.

Just like a grandfather, he can swaddle you with a level of emotional warmth and tender affection that will touch your heart in a way you might not have ever felt before, and he can also provide you with tough-love advice if it’s needed too.

You will feel the primary effects of the medicine for about 10 hours, during which time you’ll be given plenty of space for solitude, surrounded by the amazing beauty of the Ecuadorian countryside.

This provides many opportunities to look inside yourself in many different ways, and you will have an unlimited amount of Steve’s support, not only as a warm, gentle human being, but also as a trained and experienced counselor, with specialties in addictions and childhood trauma.

Steve is always within earshot if support is needed, and he checks on you periodically to see how you’re doing. You’re also welcome to roam around the property to find whatever little perch suits you best.

Midway through the ceremony, fresh fruit is served, which is always a welcomed treat, and at the end of each ceremony, a warm and hardy meal is served which really warms your bones to the core.

Finally, Steve provides angel card readings which you will likely find quite illuminating and may provide some clarification to your experiences throughout the day.

Steve and Sammy were great hosts, they clearly love the work they do. We had been planning to visit for a while and we finally made the trip happen. It was well worth it. The views are amazing and their medicine is powerful. The fruit salad they serve you during the experience is amazing. Shout out to Denning too who is an amazing healer himself.

I had beautiful San Pedro experiences there and Steve takes care and also makes the best Tomatosoup in the World. Also this place is just magical, with so much green, you can feel the energie here. Also 3 dogs and a cat around, I loved it.

I attended a San Pedro 30-day retreat with Steve S. at his facility, San Pedro Workshops, from January 8th, 2023 through February 7th, 2023. Steve’s workshop facility is located in the Andes mountains about 1 1/2 hours outside of Cuenca, Ecuador. The location itself is safe, beautiful, remote, peaceful, quiet, and clean. A house cleaner comes once a week to clean/organize and there are laundry facilities on site. Steve’s driver, Jorge, picked me up from the airport, and the roundtrip transportation to Steve’s facility was seamless and easy. My San Pedro journey consisted of 12 drink days. The experience with Steve and the medicine was positive and life changing. I came home as a different person with peace in my heart/mind/spirit. A shift in my perspective was something I had attempted on my own, but I struggled to shift my perspective regarding certain life experiences due to the severity of the trauma. San Pedro helped me make the necessary perspective shifts for my inner peace and positive future outlook — something I started wondering was ever possible. Let me assure you, it is possible! Sometimes we just need a little help in our healing journey, but finding a safe practitioner is KEY when working with plant medicine. Steve is a professional, classy, wise, compassionate, and kind man. I felt 100 percent safe and respected while working with Steve at his facility (emotionally, spiritually, and physically) . I overall felt 100 percent supported in my healing journey. It was obvious by his actions Steve cares for his clients, and there is a deep respect for the San Pedro medicine at this facility.   Steve has a background in counseling with a specialization in childhood trauma and alcoholic addictions. If the participant is open to it, Steve has a journaling process one can utilize while on the San Pedro medicine. One of the very many beauties of San Pedro is how it reveals the truth with crystal clear clarity and much love. Sometimes we are overwhelmed in the memories of our trauma, and I found the journaling exercise paramount in my healing. The combination of San Pedro and Steve’s journaling technique skyrocketed my healing and helped me reframe traumatic events in my life. The combination of San Pedro and the journaling accelerated me in connecting dots in my life, and after connecting those dots, I was able to shift my perspective in a way that benefited a healthy mindset and healthy emotional base. Honestly, I can’t express in words the peace and clarity I feel in my heart and my mind after working with Steve and his San Pedro brew. Because I had so much trauma, for me it was essential to stay at least 30 days. The first two weeks (six drinks) of San Pedro were the hardest as each journey revealed trauma to be reframed and healed. Once I passed the two-week mark, San Pedro delivered its namesake: I went to the gates of Heaven and learned/healed in the higher realms. At this point I was only working with the medicine and not combining the journaling as I had burst through inner obstacles. My entire visit felt like I was held in the arms of love, not just in the San Pedro medicine itself, but also by Steve and his lovely partner Samay. Samay cooks the most delicious meals. I loved the fresh vegetable soups, garlic bread, fresh juice, fresh fruit bowls, meatloaf, and chicken tacos on the off medicine days. Samay’s bliss bars were pretty darn blissful! Also, on the really hard days, being brought a cup of hot chocolate with marshmallows felt like a hug from the Divine Mother. Samay is a wise woman, and I’ll be forever grateful for the long talks and guidance. Samay’s heart is beautiful, and I appreciated her sensitivity and nurturing nature. Both Steve and Samay listened to me whenever I needed to express a difficult thought/memory. I never felt like a burden. I felt heard and truly cared for while at this facility. They are both humble people who do this work not for the money as much as for the service in utilizing the San Pedro medicine and providing a safe place to journey and heal. On a side note, Steve’s massages are literally the best I’ve ever had. In fact, on my last day of massage I was actually very sad because I knew the best massage of my life was about to end and how could I ever top that massage in this lifetime? I literally felt like I was floating and being infused with the most beautiful healing white light. Steve has apprenticed in San Pedro medicine, has years of service under his belt, and he is the real deal. His facility is affordable and his San Pedro brew is freshly made on site and is very powerful. If you’re looking to heal under the love and care of the San Pedro medicine and are seeking a safe practitioner to guide you, I would highly refer you to Steve’s San Pedro Workshops.  With commitment and discipline combined with the healing of this sacred plant medicine, you’ll leave with a rebuilt and renewed heart, confidence, inner peace, healing, and a love for Steve and Samay. It was hard saying goodbye. By the end of my trip these lovely people felt like family. I wish you — the reader — the best in your healing. Doing this San Pedro retreat was the best gift I’ve given myself. I recommend bringing a thick journal to write out all the details of each ceremony journey on off days. It’s amazing how all the ceremonies tie together and unfold as a beautiful tapestry of one’s healing. The intelligence of the San Pedro cactus spirit is remarkable! Thank you Steve and Samay for helping me on my healing journey.

Steve and Samay provided the perfect space to experience San Pedro. I can’t thank them enough for the wisdom, guidance, and graciousness in holding space for the most amazing spiritual journey I’ve ever taken.
I highly recommend Steve Sewell and his location in Lentag, Ecuador.

I spent two weeks with Steve and Samay to do deep work on childhood trauma and conditioning. I could never have imagined what I received with them. Both Steve and Samay are tremendously wise and loving people and the container that they keep is exceedingly clean and safe. I experienced Steve to be a powerful (and totally accessible) spiritual being and I found Samay to be intuitive, wholly available and her presence was a source of comfort and enjoyment for me. I was surprised by the love and generosity with which I was received here. A lot of work got done and by the end of the two weeks they felt like family in the best possible sense. My only regret is not having stayed twice as long. Tons of gratitude to Steve, Samay and San Pedro.
