We offer San Pedro ceremonies each week in a cozy, private, safe, and relaxing space, The countryside around Santa Isabel, Ecuador (just outside of Cuenca) is stunningly beautiful and provides the backdrop for what is sure to be a profound experience for you, as it has consistently been for us as well.
San Pedro, also known as Huachuma or Wachuma, is a sacred cactus that has been used in shamanic plant medicine ceremonies for thousands of years in the Amazonian region.
It is said to be a plant teacher, and you will quickly discover why as you begin to have a conversation with the spirit of the plant, which is known as Grandfather San Pedro. Because, just a like a grandfather, he can swaddle you with a level of emotional warmth and tender affection that will touch your heart in a way you might not have even felt before, and he can also provide you with tough-love advice if it’s needed too.
Every day starts with a warm cup of tea of coffee and friendly conversation as we settle into the new day.
Then, around 10a.m. Steve smudges us all with white sage to clear any sort of negative energies that may be present.
Next, we sit in a small circle, and Steve shares some basic guidelines to the ceremony, and then one-by-one, we each share our intentions with the medicine. This might be as simple as “My intention is to know myself better”, or you might choose to go into more detail.
The medicine is then poured in a glass for each person, and after taking as much time with it as you would prefer, you are welcomed to drink the medicine and find a nice place to settle in.
From then on, the primary element to the ceremony is a conversation that will begin in your head between you and the medicine. You might liken this to speaking to yourself silently, although it will very likely soon be clear that the entity you’re speaking to is a very wise plant teacher who is lovingly known as Grandfather San Pedro.
Just like a grandfather, he can swaddle you with a level of emotional warmth and tender affection that will touch your heart in a way you might not have ever felt before, and he can also provide you with tough-love advice if it’s needed too.
You will feel the primary effects of the medicine for about 10 hours, during which time you’ll be given plenty of space for solitude, surrounded by the amazing beauty of the Ecuadorian countryside.
This provides many opportunities to look inside yourself in many different ways, and you will have an unlimited amount of Steve’s support, not only as a warm, gentle human being, but also as a trained and experienced counselor, with specialties in addictions and childhood trauma.
Steve is always within earshot if support is needed, and he checks on you periodically to see how you’re doing. You’re also welcome to roam around the property to find whatever little perch suits you best.
Midway through the ceremony, fresh fruit is served, which is always a welcomed treat, and at the end of each ceremony, a warm and hardy meal is served which really warms your bones to the core.
Finally, Steve provides angel card readings which you will likely find quite illuminating and may provide some clarification to your experiences throughout the day.
Workshops are held at the Eagle’s Nest – home of Steve Eagle Sewell – who is self-described as a plant medicine specialist and has chosen to dedicate his life to providing plant medicine to those who need it most.
And after a 2-year apprenticeship in Peru, he’s also facilitated ceremony for over 3,000 people and drank the medicine himself over 500 times. He is well acquainted with it’s healing power as the ultimate healer of addiction, dis-ease and dis-order.
If you want to discover who you are, what you believe in, how to heal, and how to find your path, you’ve found the right place 🙂

September 28, 2023 at 6:06 pmI went to Steve’s San Pedro retreat center for four days. The experience was unparalleled. He did a great job of walking me through the process. I was nervous because it was a new experience. And I learned more about myself than I could have in any other way. I went with the intention of understanding what held me back. The first day, I grieved infinished business from my past. And on the second day I realized, instantly and to my astonishment, why I held myself back.
I highly recommend Steve’s work. It made a significant difference, for myself and other people who attended.

August 12, 2023 at 1:05 pmTake my review in context since clearly many people have had a great experience with Steve. I suffer from panic disorder. I booked a 1-day retreat with Steve, and the night before I couldn’t sleep. Around 4am, I had a panic attack where my heart rate spiked to more than 170 and I couldn’t breathe. It took my partner some time to calm me down, and I realized there was no way I was going to be able to get into the car to head to his place. Panic sucks.
I sent Steve and his driver a late night message saying I don’t think I was in the right headspace to go. I felt bad for canceling, although I think it was the right decision based on his reply to me. I’m at peace with my decision not to go.
He ended his response to me with (direct quote): “Enjoy your anxiety cause you’re gonna have it now for a long time. Don’t ever even think of coming back here ! ”
Make what you will of his response, obviously he spent time preparing for my arrival and he can certainly be angry, but I think someone dealing with broken people should be more empathetic.

July 26, 2023 at 11:38 amI am eternally grateful I had the opportunity to spend 4 weeks with Steve (and Denning, 3 amazing dogs and one amazing cat 😉 ). I learned soo much. I could not have come to a better place. I was able to go very deep, and take a proper look at the most important areas of my life: Relationship, work/vocation, health and healing, and spirit.
I don’t say these things lightly. I have done quite a number of ceremonies in the past in Brazil, Peru and Ecuador mainly. I have done cemermony with indigenous people far away from civilization, with facilitators born and raised in western culture, and with Ayahuasca churches in Brazil. Some experiences were exceptional, some good, some not so good in terms of the facilitators in my opinion.
Steve and his place, however, were excellent, really beyond what I had expected. I had been guided by my inner voice (aka intuition) to show up here. And it proved to be worth it – and in many ways more so than I could have ever imagined.
All I can say is thank you ! 🙂
This is a place I can wholeheartedly recommend you go to, if you long for more depth and healing in your life.

July 7, 2023 at 10:59 pmI came for two ceremonies, and I wish I had been able to stay longer. You are in great hands with Steve, and you can feel his respect for the medicine as well as the medicine’s respect of him. I felt cared for and taken care of during the whole experience with integrity and compassion. The property is gorgeous and you feel like you are being hugged by the Andes mountains. There are three dogs and a cat, the dogs act like guardians during your journey as well by coming to sit by you in intervals (if you don’t want them near you can also easily shoo them away but I absolutely loved their presence near me). After dinner which is usually a deliciously prepared and nourishing soup, we had time to reflect as a group together.
As a woman especially I am cautious about where I go when working with medicine and bringing in that aspect of vulnerability. I felt very safe and secure here, and Steve and I had some deep conversations in the sacred maloca that I will be remembering for a long time. I am so grateful to have met Huachuma here, to have had the deep ancestral and personal healing experience I had, and I can confidently recommend Steve’s place.
