Marosa Healing Center

Iquitos, Loreto, Peru

Marosa is a Shipibo-family run center focused on the full breadth and potential of Amazonian plant medicine for healing the entire human system.

We are an integrative plant medicine village where you can live amongst our families while being offered the opportunity to heal from chronic illness and find your most profound purpose. We offer comfortable, private accommodations so that our patients have the personal space to integrate their ayahuasca ceremonies. Marosa is not a luxury-based center and does not invest in luxury-type amenities. Instead, we invest in healers with extraordinary skills to give you the best possible outcome, and keep our max ceremony occupancy to 14, inclucing apprentices and facilitators. If you are looking for an experience catered to a western lifestyle, you may want to choose another retreat center. However, if you want to experience the full depth of the Shipibo tradition and the possibilities of plant dieting, this is the place for you. Our retreats start every Sunday and are customizable for your needs on a week-to-week basis.  We offer stays from 7 days to 90 days. Patients that stay at least 11 days will be allowed to participate in Master Plant Diets.

Marosa Healing Center is owned by Maestra Angela Sanchez Rios, who has over twenty years of experience working with Ayahuasca and is one of the most respected shamans in Iquitos. She treats her patients as if they were her children. Her care is not just during ayahuasca ceremonies. She tends to your unique needs by providing many different types of medicine, including plant vapor baths and plant tonics, and prepares all of the master diets for those who are dieting. Her smiles and laughter are infectious.

I’ve absolutely loved my experiences here at Marosa and can’t wait to go back! As soon as my flight arrived to Iquitos Tony (one of the host) was at the airport to pick me up. It was so nice to show up and not have to stress about a single thing.

Marosa is really a safe and beautiful place for healing and just focusing on yourself. It’s an awesome environment because everyone is there for similar reasons. The ceremonies are so special and the energy and experience the shamans bring with their Icaros is one of the most powerful things I’ve experienced. The shamans are amazing at being able to connect with you on another level. They are able to help when you need it and guide you through your ceremonies to have the most beneficial experiences.

As soon as I showed up it felt like I was home. The location is amazing and you are really able to connect with nature. The food was delicious and probably the freshest I’ve ever eaten. I can’t wait to go back again and continue my journey with ayahuasca.

Ayahuasca doesn’t always give you what you want but it’s what you need.

Bonjour, hola, hello… My name is Sandrine and I spent three weeks at Marosa during May 2023. This was my first Ayahuasca retreat and I give my review a five star rating for the following reasons: I was looking for a small retreat. I did not wish to be with a large group of people and Marosa caters to small groups. It was crucial for me that the money I spent for the retreat would strictly go to the Shipibo community. Marosa is owned by a Shipibo family. I am an anthropologist and, of course, strongly believe in helping indigenous groups. I was curious about Ayahuasca and Shipibo culture from an anthropological standpoint as well as a personal one. My quest was to dig deeper in some past trauma that has been showing its ugly face from time to time. I knew that spending time in a place like Marosa would only help in my healing and my personal path. As a woman who travels alone, I also pay much attention to safety. The day I landed at Iquitos and I saw Angela, Tony and Angela’s daughter all waiting for me outside the airport I knew I was in safe hands, I knew I was in my Shipibo family. Angela took care of me as if I was her daughter. I had much time spent with her… talking… explaining to her my goals and my issues. I had never done Ayahuasca before and did not wish to take too much or too little. Angela guided me the entire time. Tony took care of the logistics and I got to meet many members of the family. Their cook and her son were a delight. The food was delicious (something I had never expected since I was on the Marosa plant diet and no sugar or salt are allowed.) Maestro Rafael and his wife Lourdes were like parents to me. They took care of me. Every morning! Helping me with an old foot injury and so much more. My little house where I stayed was comfortable. I encourage anyone to bring little items to make it even more like home. I purchased gorgeous art from Angela and her daughter which I used to decorate my little hut… my stay was filled with love, compassion, laughter, some necessary crying but all was beauty and kindness. I left Marosa with a brand new understanding of what self-love is really about. I call Angela (whom I call godmother) regularly and plan to return to Marosa before the end of the year (with friends.)

While researching for an Aya center for the first time in 2022, I asked on a Facebook page for recommendations, and someone said something like, “It is already done,” What they meant was, although I didn’t know it yet, I would go where I meant to go. It couldn’t be more true… I somehow ended up at Marosa while it was not even on my list of selected retreats. And how blessed I was to end up there.

My first Ayahuasca experience was in Marosa in September 2022, and I went back again in Feb 2023.

I have been struggling with severe anxiety and depression for a very long time,
There are no words to express my gratitude to these amazing people and what they did for me. There is no comparison to how much work, care, and love they put into bringing me back to life.
My gratitude to Maestro Humberto and Maestra Angela will be eternal. They (and Tony and Jordan) went above and beyond what you can expect, even from your closest friends and family. They are giants who are the pillars of well-being in this world. There is no way of explaining their infinite wisdom and love.

After decades of living like a zombie, I started to feel inner joy and happiness after my first retreat, and there is no way I can explain the second one. Seriously… there is no way!

It is impossible to leave a comment without mentioning Jordan; Someone should start a petition to add his photo to Wikipedia as the definition of the word “Patience.” He is love <3

And Tony the pillar that keeps this center going with all his hard work and love.

And my gratitude to each and every one of the staff members. I have never seen so much greatness and humility combined in one place.

As I said, there are no words to express the experience and my love and gratitude.

This retreat is not a shiny, luxurious place. It is basic, simple, and humble. You have all you need without all the show and fuss you see in some other places. Here Shamans are not walking around in shiny, showy outfits. You are not pushed from one Westernized program to the other. Here, things are not done for advertisement; they are done the way they should be done, natural, humble, organic, and true to the plant spirit. The Shaman's intuition on dieta is unbelievable. There is no doubt that they are connected to a higher wisdom.

When I ask people for their feedback on a place, my question always is "Would you send someone you love, your child, your sibling, to that place?", and if someone asks me that question, my answer is "ABSOLUTELY".
