Tragic Death at Ayahuasca Retreat Center in Peru

It’s been widely reported that a 41-year-old American that visited Loreto, Peru for an ayahuasca retreat died recently after an Ayahusaca ceremony at the retreat center La Casa de Guillermo ICONA.

And it was theorized that this was caused by antibiotics, though we cast doubt on that here since it’s unheard of for antibiotics to have such an interaction.

Indeed, WebMD doesn’t list antibiotics as contraindicated for Ayahuasca.

A member of the family has stepped forward though to interject that it’s simply not the case that the man died due to an interaction between Ayahuasca and antibiotics, and to claim that the medical examiner was merely impersonated.

Further, they say that the man’s death was related to a head injury due to slipping and falling, which is still tragic.

We’ve been unable to find the official autopsy report or any official verification of this version of events, but out of respect for the family, we’re removing the deceased’s name, likeness, and obituary from this post.
