About:
Arutam Ruymán and his team, after a long history of receiving privately his students from all over the world at their spiritual retreat center “Cumbres de Arutam”, located in the heart of the Amazon, in Ecuador, are pleased to inform that its doors have been opened for the general public that may be interested in the forms and traditional practices of Amazonian Shamanism.
The houses and ceremonial spaces of the center are surrounded by the mountains, rivers and waterfalls of the Sangay National Park, in a total area of 600 hectares. The teaching of Shamanism is delivered by Shaman Arutam Ruymán under a strictly traditional method that is typical of the “Shuar” lineage.
Ruymán has been family with them and important part of their culture for twenty years, dedicating himself to teaching it throughout the world. He has received the recognition of the elders, masters and institutions devoted to this knowledge throughout the country. He currently chairs the European Foundation “Esmerald Horizon”, especially concerned with the preservation and dissemination of native traditions. He has numerous written and audiovisual works to spread this knowledge to the general public. This long life experience is key to achieving the best possible retreat in a safe environment.
For this new project, whose objective is to bring ancestral Shamanism to a new and not necessarily experienced public, we have a multidisciplinary team, including psychologists and experts in the practices of this tradition.
The retreats consist not only of ceremonies and practical sessions with the use of sacred plants, such as Ayahuasca and Tobacco, but also a teaching time and a moment to share, and thus experience the feelings and knowledge of ancient peoples.
Prices and accomodation:
There are several guest houses, that count each with a double room. Each house has a wonderful terrace with amazing views on the amazonian jungle.
There are 3 different prices for the one/two weeks retreat depending on the accommodation choice.
- 950/1900 USD: “Jea” (Shuar house)
Traditional and ceremonial space. Home and temple: spacious, shared and with fire in the center. Made completely out of palms, leaves and trunks, which favor the experience of constant communion with the jungle. - 1150/2100 USD: Shared double room
Shared double room in colonial wooden houses, with viewpoints and spaces to meditate, exercise, cook, leisure, etc. - 1350/2300 USD: Single room

About the retreats:
- 6 Traditional Ayahuasca ceremonies within the option to drink San Pedro at least one time.
- 1 Traditional Waterfall ceremony (Tuna Karamamu), where the participants walk the path that leads to the learning of dreaming, as they drink Tobacco and spend the night next to the waterfalls in the jungle, followed by the waterfall bath initiation ceremony.
- Daily meditation using Shuar Tobacco
- Purges with Piripri and Guayusa after ceremonies.
- Learning to prepare the medicines following the ancient recieps.
- Teachings about Shuar spirituality and life in the rainforest.
- Human medicine seminars, such as chinese medicine and acupunture principles
- Craft making workshops of traditional shuar musical instruments and pottery with elders
- Yoga sessions and various practices such as Kung Fu, Chi Kung, Archery, ect…
Meals:
The diet is carefully optimized to obtain the best possible performance during work. At times it becomes very traditional and very rigorous, but at other times it will be more generous and diverse.

October 13, 2021 at 1:29 pmI’ve been to Ruyman’s Ecuadorian center 2 times already. This is the place for those who are looking for a real tradition and want to get the deepest experience. Everything is real here, each ceremony is a unique journey to the spirit, it is opening and transformation, purification and fulfillment. I came back from there as a different person, and these changes made my life much better in many ways.
I want to note the special location of the center. It is hidden deep in the jungle, nothing distracts you from working with plants and contemplating nature. A very good team of organizers, people who wholeheartedly devote themselves to this not easy work and try to make life of the guests as good as possible.
Ruyman, a wonderful, kind and very strong shaman, will guide you inside yourself and to the very stars. His singing is distinguished by special power and beauty, in which the amazing sounds of the inhabitants of the jungle are heard, as if the animals themselves were singing through him. And of course he is a great master of playing traditional native instruments such as tumank, kaer, dakota flute, jew’s harp, tambourine and others.
Notem (ayahuasca) is always strong and fresh. I like so much this highest quality.
I highly recommend this place and dream of coming back here again!

For the most ancient and subtle art, for an incredible heart, for the ability to heal and open incredible spaces and flows inside and outside the universe. Each ceremony is like living your whole life in one moment, simultaneously healing, cleansing, being filled with light. How to express in words the universe that you see with your own eyes. The Master and the medicine gave me life itself, the only life that exists in the moment, the very support, light, happiness, love and protection that can be found only inside myself and expressed to the whole world. At that moment in my life, when it seemed that there was nothing to cling to and there was no sense, the Master with his huge heart, reliability, strength, spirit, faith, stretched out his hand and picked me up when I was falling, showing dark corners. The shadow behind which there is power, light, resource, pointing the way to the true self. The ceremonies, the medicine, the Master makes it possible to find all the answers to the most difficult questions, to find them yourself. His ceremonies are very safe all the way through and bringing to the light of truth. I’m really looking forward to the retreat. With gratitude, with an open heart of the Spirit of Strength. p. s Is it worth trying, if there are doubts. Its better to try once than to regret all my life that I haven’t.
