Learn More About the Medicines
What is Ayahuasca?
“Ayahuasca” is the Quechua word for both the vine (Banisteriopsis caapi) and the sacred tea made from it, traditionally combined with Chacruna leaves. It contains harmine, harmaline, and tetrahydroharmine. Used by Amazonian tribes for centuries, it opens portals to emotional and spiritual healing. Our vine grows on the property, and we prepare the medicine in the traditional way.
What is San Pedro?
San Pedro (Trichocereus pachanoi) is a sacred cactus native to the Andes of Ecuador. It carries masculine energy and helps us open our hearts and expand our connection with all life. We also grow this cactus on the land, and ceremonies are done with great reverence.
What is Kambo?
Kambo is a powerful healing ritual that uses the secretion of the giant monkey frog (Phyllomedusa bicolor). Applied through small burns on the skin, Kambo detoxifies the body, boosts the immune system, and clears emotional blocks. It’s used for deep physical and energetic purification.
Your Healing Begins Here

April 30, 2023 at 10:05 amI am not big on recommending this place and not big on words to express my gratitude I just want to thank Juan and Manuel Calazacon and his family. I am starting a new life because of them. Highly a life changing experience and I love that it’s genuinely managed by just natives. I will forever be grateful

April 25, 2023 at 11:18 amThis is my 2nd time attending the retreat and all I can say is that it was extremely humbling both times. My experience with Ayahuasca is a bit difficult to describe to someone who has not experienced it. It’s intense! This is a place where serious work with the plant medicines is done. Deeply personal, part reality, part mysticism and part healing medicine. Ancient and modern while revealing truths and showing one a path to self discovery. I highly recommend Awakenings Ayahuasca because it is a place where development and cleansing are top priority. I will continue to return to them in the future because once you’ve found a place filled with guidance, love and acceptance there’s no need to keep seeking. I give Manuel, Juan and Augusto the highest recommendation possible. They know what they are doing and they make you feel comfortable and safe in what can be a very intense experience.

April 20, 2023 at 4:09 pmI have just returned from Awakenings Ayahuasca in Ecuador and want to say thanks very much to Juan and Manuel for the opportunity they gave me and for accompanying me in every step of my journey. From arrival, to the accommodations, to the food, to the Tsachila history and dances, to the medicine ceremonies, everything was brilliant, efficient and highly personal. They accompanied me on a very personal inner journey and excelled at even the smallest details because that is what they do. I arrived there nervous, heartbroken and exhausted, for so many things that had been going wrong in my life. They showed such kindness and dedication. It is difficult to find the right words to express the immensity of my experience with these shamans but I can tell you that coming here will be one of the most important decisions of your life.

April 19, 2023 at 12:10 pmI was totally impressed at what a well run retreat these guys orchestrated. They work hard and plan far in advance to give guests the best and safest plant medicine experience. I highly recommend Awakenings Ayahuasca. The whole place was fantastic. As far as the Ayahuasca goes, I can’t believe something this powerful can actually exist, and that it can show us an entirely new reality that we are not aware of until we drink it. This ancient medicine seems to be snaking out of the jungle to reach us in our North American homes. And it holds precious and essential knowledge for our future.

April 18, 2023 at 10:01 pmIf you want to explore the traditional plant medicine I highly recommend Awakenings Ayahuasca and this Tsachila community The retreat is set in the Andes cloud forest and you can feel the spiritual energy of the property so intensely. My cabin was a comfortable and peaceful place to rest. They have 7, 10 or 14 day stays that included Ayahuasca, San Pedro and Kambo ceremonies. Shaman’s Manuel, Augusto and Juan come from a family of multi generational healers and it was such a privilege to participate in their ceremonies. Their sacred medicine was pure and filled with magic and will put you in direct contact with the spirit world. I drank “la medicina” because of my deliberate intention to learn, and ended up having an extraordinarily blissful and spiritually profound experience as the messages from the spirits came in clearly. With guidance from these shamans you will transform into the best version of yourself because they truly care about every single guest. In ceremony they created and nurtured a safe and positive space to unravel and grow, and that was the most important thing. The other guests were all so incredible. I didn’t expect to meet so many wonderful, open minded, kind, supportive and amazing people, yet I did. I highly recommend Awakenings Ayahuasca to anyone considering doing the plant medicines.
