Note: This business no longer operates as a plant medicine retreat center.

TierraMitica is a healing and research center in the beautiful unspoiled Fasaquihui gorge in the spectacular high jungle of Peru, 40 km by road from the city of Tarapoto. A paradise of 80 hectares (197 acres) of lush jungle with river and waterfalls, full of wild life, monkeys, blue morpho butterflies, hummingbirds and much more… It is the permanent home of the transformative Mythic Voyage Ayahuasca Workshop and the Embrace the Medicine Ayahuasca Retreats.

It is also an art center and the home of a community fully dedicated and trained to our healing work.

Our mission is to create a place where people are helped to transcend their personal wounds as well as our collective wound, to restore their trust in the wisdom of the world we live in, in themselves and in humanity, to provide a haven that offers everything we would like our own sisters, brothers, mothers and ourselves to find in order to absorb the gifts and healing insights of the medicine and the ceremonies. A place to inspire and restore the trust needed for every one of us to dare to rediscover and deepen our ability to embrace every moment, our power to create for ourselves amazing, fulfilling, creative and happy lives of choice and open heart.

We want for any one of our guests, in groups of a maximum of 12 people, to find here a place where they feel at home, safe, taken care of, supported and guided, so they can go as deep as they need in their healing process.

We work with a team of Shipibo Maestros and Maestras, that we have chosen not only for their experience and their power -that you will both feel strongly during the ceremonies- but also for their passion for their sacred work, their dedication to the healing, and their genuine attention and love for each single participant. We do ceremonies outdoors, since, due to the altitude, we have the luxury of being free of mosquitoes, under the moon and the stars on a wooden floor, were the icaros, the traditional healing chants of the Shipibos, are accompanied by the symphony of the river and the jungle.

We provide modern accommodations, with hot showers, comfortable beds, clear spring water and gourmet Ayahuasca diet food prepared with love.

We offer three different programs, the Mythic Voyage, the Embrace the Medicine 6 days, the Embrace the Medicine 11 days.

The Mythic Voyage:
It is a unique process, a fully guided, intensive and holistic workshop of 11 days for life transformation, and the only workshop of its kind in the world actually GUARANTEEING results, the success in fulfilling the guarantee judged by the participants themselves.

It is not focused on the Ayahuasca but on the end result: total transformation on every layer of human functionality and on every aspect of life for a beautiful, happy, inspired, creative life full of enthusiasm, ideas and love. It is holistic because it deals with seven layers of human functionality: our emotional, physical, cognitive or intellectual, philosophical, energetic, sensory and symbolic bodies to achieve a common internal direction and true, long lasting change. During the Mythic Voyage, intuitive, simple enough for a five-year-old to understand answers to existential questions like what exactly is the soul, what is enlightenment, who are we as human beings, why do we all feel bad about ourselves, why the universe exists and for what purpose, what is the reason why humans exist, and many more, are found that actually make sense.

During the 11 days, Ayahuasca ceremonies are not done for the experience but in order to find specific, practical answers to problems that make us suffer and blocks that stop us from living life to our full potential. We teach and guide people on how to effectively navigate and interpret the ceremony experience, diving deeper and deeper into our internal world, our subconscious, our belief systems that determine only who we are and how we perceive everything around us but also everything that we feel and think, our senses, our health as well as our memories. In contrast with retreats, the number of ceremonies is not fixed but varies according to the flow of the workshop and can vary from as many as six to as few as two.

Embrace the Medicine:
This program is an Ayahuasca retreat with two different formulas of 6 or 11 days, with respectively 3 and 6 Ayahuasca ceremonies.

The Ayahuasca communicates through the symbolic language, so we offer sharing circles and consultations to prepare you for ceremony and to decipher together the messages, the visions and the insights lived during the night. This way you can gain clarity on what has happened and what your next step should be. The Ayahuasca is a navigable experience, so if you wish, we can teach you how to collaborate with the Ayahuasca instead of being a simple observer, how to guide your own journey through a very precise and focused intention to go where is needed to find the answers and insights that will make a real difference in your life. The more you know how to navigate it, the more you will feel safe and free to explore, the more conscious you are of your experience and the clearer the results will be.

The guide of the retreat and one or two trained assistants are always presents in ceremonies, to support and assist the participants in anything they may need, as much for practical matters than in their personal process.

We have certified yoga instructors in Hatha and Vinyasa yoga, who can give classes every day during the Embrace the Medicine, for beginners or for advanced, an art studio available for you to create, an art gallery dedicated to the myth of the Grandmother Ayahuasca with 19 murals painted by visionary artists from all over the world, a natural pool by the waterfall, and plenty of land to explore and enjoy the wildlife, everything for our guests to feel inspired, nurtured, to feel their thirst for everything beautiful life has to offer.

Magic does exist!

Taking the leap and booking my workshop at Tierra Mitica is by far the best thing I have ever done in my life. I didn’t necessarily feel unhappy or stuck in my life, but I did not feel I was living a life of my wildest dreams or living my full potential either. When I heard about Tierra Mitica and the workshop I was intrigued but also a little skeptical, and I was suspicious that there was nothing of real substance or truth to be found at Tierra Mitica or from Mikis, that it was too good to be true and even if they thought they had something good and they felt good that I wouldn’t agree or that actually they were totally nuts and I would want to get out of there as soon as possible. The reason I decided to go and see for myself is because a close friend of mine had done a workshop and I could not deny that she felt different, and when she described her experience I felt that I wanted to cry and something in my heart was yearning to experience what she had too, and to feel the clarity I could feel from her, and I wanted to be happy.
The workshop would have been worth it if it helped me find my happiness and gave me clarity on my life and the world; but it went so much further than that. It has been over two years since my mythic voyage, I went in May 2017, and this is not an exaggeration – it helped me get the motivation and clarity to launch the business I had been working on for 2 and a half years on an international scale and make over 120k in presales, it helped me find the most perfect business partner also and step out of the business to pursue my true creative passions, it helped me start a business beyond my wildest dreams that I now work on every single day and truly I could cry with gratitude at how much fun I find it and how much gratitude I have for my life, it helped me to attract the right kind of guy (finally!) and taught me exactly how to foster the relationship so it gets deeper, more intimate, closer, more fun and sexier every single day instead of the spark fading it gets bigger all the time, it helped me to work through all of my childhood experiences that caused me so much pain for so many years, the biggest of all it helped me find my self worth and heal my self loathing and the fear and pain deep within my heart – so deep I did not even know I carried it with me every day, it helped me find my confidence and self love, my inspiration and motivation for life, I cannot tell you how much closer I am with my family and my friends in a real and genuine way, I never feel alone anymore. And this is just to say the main things that come to mind, and truly this is because of the experiences I have had in the mythic voyage. I have also returned for an advanced workshop because of how much the work has changed my life and that only further propelled me forward into a happier, lighter, joyfilled, confident and awesome version of me. Of course I also made the choice to go for it and apply the things I have learnt, to be open and willing to accept responsibility for my life – the workshop is not a pill that magically makes everything amazing, it is just information that you can either choose to integrate or not – and the reason there are a couple of people who leave bad reviews and get incredibly angry and call Mikis an asshole and a narcissitic is because they were not willing to change things in their lives that are making them miserable, or not willing to take responsibility for the ways they are self destructing or making mistakes in their life – so they protect themselves and get defensive “NO it is not me ruining my life, your are just an asshole!” and they have to believe it otherwise they would need to face the facts that everything they are unhappy about is their choice, so they blast it all over the internet to make themselves feel better about their choice. Well I am so glad that I did not go down that route and I was open to the work in my workshop, because the proof is in the pudding, I am so much happier and I love life, I could not say this before my workshop without lying. I have friends that have paid literally 10 x the amount of the choice os workshop cost to go to a Tony Robbins seminar and although you do pick up some pieces of gold, there is nothing like the Choice OS workshops in the entire world, that truly gets to the core of everything in your life and truly helps you find your happiness completely, that answers every single question in a clear and factual way, where you can ask as many questions as you desire and nothing is left fluffy or unclear. I would recommend this workshop completely, I completely stand behind the work and am happy to answer any questions to anyone who is interested. My advice is to go for it, as we only have one life after all and I am so glad I am not coasting anymore, thanks to Mikis and Tierra Mitica I am truly living. 5 stars.

Danger! Read this before going: Everyone rating this place 5 stars works or lives at the retreat. The shaman Mikis is a very scary human being who is a master manipulator, slapping his assistants, onnly referring to women as “pussy” (literally, I’m not exaggerating), as well as using deep psychological tactics to get you to do what he wants you to do, and even writing letters to your family members in your “voice” to their family and then asking them for permission to send the letters (that he wrote) dismissing them or sometimes disowning them. This place likely causes deep trauma for people. I dearly wanted this to be a special experience for people, and sometimes people can leave gaining value from the experience, but not through an enjoyable experience, but rather growth through struggle and challenge. I cannot tell you what to do or not to do, but I strongly advise you consider your mental health and safety before deciding on attending this retreat.

I attended one of Mikis retreats early 2016 after seeing so many glowing reviews and positive feedback. I had been to ayahuasca retreats before and was very excited to see what this retreat had to offer. But this retreat has some serious problems. I noticed very early on that Mikis, the man who runs the retreat, is very abusive to the people that work there. Verbally, emotionally and mentally abusive. He would yell and scream and belittle the people there over the smallest mistake such as not having enough coffee out for the guests. He would also insult the guests and called women “pussy”

The retreat itself would actually be quite a magical place without him being there, it is in a beautiful location and the staff there was lovely people. But after a few days I saw deeper into how Mikis operates himself there and how he treats other people, when a few of us confronted him about his actions towards other people he dismissed it as necessary behaviour for them to heal, which is definitely not true, I have been to ayahuasca retreats where they are kind, loving, patient, caring and respectful and people have had profound healings.

He has convinced his staff members that his abuse is necessary to their personal progress and development but from what I saw, they were all very afraid of him and the atmosphere would change whenever he entered the room, I would highly recommend you search elsewhere for an ayahuasca experience unless this bullying and abusive format he has taken on resonates with you

I attended the August 1st, 2017 Mythic Voyage at Tierra Mitica. It’s taken me many months to put all the pieces together of what happened to me there. If you plan on doing this Ayahuasca retreat, there are a few things you should know…
    1. If you choose to not drink the medicine, they do not give you the option of staying at the retreat to ground. They will make you leave and drop you off at a hotel in town, even if you are still under the influence from the medicine. I wanted to stay at the center (because I paid for a safe space when I am not in my right mind) and they said if I do not participate in the ways everyone else were, then I could not stay. So they dropped me off at a hotel, still under the influence. I later found out from someone who was also a participant at the retreat that they didn’t even do another ceremony after I left! So they made me leave for not wanting to drink Ayahuasca again, and then they didn’t even do it again. There was another girl who also quit a day after me, and they did not make her leave the retreat. Their reasoning for making me leave was because they said I was hitting on one of the Tierra Miticans there that was married. I believe they are referring to this time I touched his arm, but again, I was not in my right mind and forgot he was married. The other reasoning was because I wrote a note in a girl’s journal. This I recognize was not right, but is minimal and not a reason to kick someone out of a retreat. That is the point of doing retreats like this, to learn and grow as human beings. When you are under the influence of the world’s strongest psychotropic plant, some unconscious things will arise. They claim to be able to help people with all kinds of mental disorders, and kicking someone out for writing a positive note in someone’s journal is should not be grounds for kicking them out. If they can’t handle that, then I would definitely NOT trust them if you have some serious mental health issue.
    2. Mikis, the main shaman does not drink Ayahuasca with you and is not even present during the ceremony. You are with his assistants who are like shamans in training. Most of them have only been living there for 1-4 years.
    3. They also believe that being vegetarian/vegan is a form of mental illness, and that it means that you have a belief system that ‘’god did not create everything perfectly as it should be’’.
    4. If you are a man with long hair, they will most likely make you cut it off as a form of symbolism for the new ‘you’.
    5. Be careful if you are a feminist or a woman who has been physically/verbally abused. Mikis Hassan, the main shaman and owner of the retreat center does not refer to women as ‘women’ or ‘ladies’ but as ‘pussy’. He says his methods are controversial and that is part of his process to break down your belief systems. However, he does not refer to men as ‘dicks’ or ‘cocks’. When I brought this up to him, he said because he didn’t think the work ‘dick’ or ‘cock’ is as cute or endearing as the term ‘pussy’. Which is his own personal beliefs system, that I feel does not help with women who have been degraded or dealing with oppression issues.
    6. I saw Mikis physically slap his assistant in the face multiple times with what looked like all his strength because he kept making grammatical errors on the white board, because English is not his first language.
    7. Mikis has a temper. He yelled at me when I put a blanket on myself when I was cold, because it disrupted his train of thought. He blamed it on his Autism, but then goes on to teach people to take responsibility for themselves. He got extremely mad at someone who was complaining about their back hurting from sitting in the chair for too long because they were in a car accident. So the car accident is not a good enough excuse, but his autism can be excused.
    8. Mikis is a hypocrite. He says that most people’s unhappiness stems from Paradox in the world. However, he is full of them himself. He has a lot of health issues, and he is teaching us that we can do anything we want, and heal anything we want. So I asked him why he has not healed his health condition. He said, that it was not his priority and that the retreats and the work they do helping people is his priority. BUT, he cannot help anyone when he is dead, so that is a huge paradox.
    9. He got most of the women in the group to admit they were in love with their fathers aka the Electra Complex. I felt like he was just breaking people down, picking at their insecurities, and implanted false ideas/ problems.
    10. Another big red flag for me, was when he was being so mean and rude to this one guy for his mistakes, and said that someone needed to spit on him. Then he looked at me and asked me to spit on him!!! I said, ‘’No’’, then he said , ‘’Why not?’’, then I said, ‘’Because he is deserving of love and respect like everyone else, despite his mistakes’’. Then he asked this other girl to spit on him, and she actually did it!! I believe there are much more healthier ways to help people than that.
    11. There is a lot more of my personal experience that happened after I left the retreat that I will not get into. But my mother contacted him, and he actually told her CONFIDENTIAL information that I shared our group therapy. He is not an actual licensed therapist, so there is a loophole with this because there is technically no law he is breaking. The participants have also shared ‘Confidential’ information about me and my experience all over the internet, which is extremely unprofessional!
Please beware of this retreat center. While I think they have some good messages they teach, their methods and approach is very unhealthy and damaging. They put you on the spot, use peer pressure, and try and make you feel like an idiot if you use any form of critical thinking or disagree with their teachings. I believe they take advantage of people in their most vulnerable state and use brainwashing, hypnotic, and cult forming techniques. Please feel free to contact me if you want to know my story or have any other questions at ontheroadwithin@gmail.com.

The owner of Tierra Mitica is an overbearing bully who displays not slightest sign of respect, kindness, empathy or compassion for anyone.
He presents a series of ideas but permits no discussion of those ideas at any time.
He claims to be a happy man but quickly becomes agitated and aggressive if anyone does not agree with him or attempts to point out the deficiencies in what he says.
Anyone attending this course would be well advised to read about Narcissistic Personality Disorders and cult formation before they attend. Better yet… stay away.
