Arkana Spiritual Center

Iquitos and Urubamba in Peru

Our Program
At Arkana, we create the space for you to get in touch with your truth, opening your path for deeper meaning and greater fulfillment in your life. We work with ancestral medicines such as Ayahuasca, San Pedro, Bufo Alvarius, Rapé , using the traditional practices of the indigenous cultures of the Peruvian Amazon. We currently operate two centers in Peru, one in the Peruvian Amazon and a second one in the Sacred Valley (close to Machu Picchu), and one in Mexico, the choice is yours.

With great respect for the plants and the knowledge and healing that comes with them, our lineage of Shipibo shamans set the stage for truly deep and profound healing. Awaken your inner power through their sacred and powerful icaros (healing songs), and discover your connection to all things by exploring some of the 2.2 million hectare Pacaya Samiria National Reserve which is our backyard. Nourish your body and soul with fresh, clean, delicious meals that promote your Ayahuasca experience, and integrate healthy habits into your routine with our yoga classes and extensive selection of gym equipment for all levels. We believe the health of physical body sets the foundation for the health of the energetic body – Often ignored in this type of spiritual work, we find this to be an important part of the healing process, so you can begin implementing the healthy habits that will carry this work with you into your life back home. Finally, relax your mind and spirit with sound baths, meditations, breathwave sessions, and OM circles, or simply enjoy the tranquil views of both sunrise and sunset from our front porch on the banks of the Ucayali River, surrounded by lush biodiversity and the mesmerizing sounds of the jungle.

Arkana’s exceptional team of highly-trained Shipibo Master Shamans represent an unbroken lineage of plant medicine work. With a combined history of over 70 years of experience working closely with Ayahuasca and other master plant teachers of the jungle, our compassionate healers lovingly share their teachings, healing songs (icaros), capabilities, and knowledge with integrity and honor. We strive to maintain the traditional practices passed down through thousands of years of indigenous Amazonian culture, in order to continue to promote the true purpose and nature of plant medicine work.

Experiencing the medicines with us is a transformative personal journey, and so much more. We also work closely with our local community, the Amazonian village of Libertad, to ensure that our Center can benefit and give back to the people who have so generously let us into their homes and hearts. We create employment opportunities, teach free English classes, provide a space for the ladies to sell their handmade crafts, and assist in construction projects, among other things. Our latest endeavor is outfitting the entire village with free solar panels, so every house can have light and electricity. When you join us, you are helping the rainforest and the Amazon communities that live here.

Guests that come to our Center often say they feel like “part of the family” with us – that’s no coincidence, as we are one big family at Arkana! The people that are with you throughout your experience can simply facilitate your own healing journey or become an integral part of it. Our experienced, loving, and professional team of caregivers welcomes you to join our tribe, where we strive to make you feel at home and at ease, supported and cared for with all the love and compassion that is at the core of the plant medicines and people we work with.

Ayahuasca is a powerful medicine that offers us the opportunity to understand our true nature, by shining a light onto our darkness, and holding a mirror up to our fears, negative thought patterns, and self-limiting beliefs. We provide the environment and expertise of a team of highly skilled, warm, compassionate Shamans and facilitators to guide you through the process of awakening, of choosing differently, healing, and expanding. It is a slow but steady path towards freedom – from fear, from illusion, from self-constructed boundaries – resulting in a lighter, brighter, more authentic self, and the full experience of love. It is our honor to help you on this most fulfilling of all journeys: the journey back home.

We look forward to having you with us!

Lots of Love,
The Team

I was inspired to look into an ayahuasca retreat after reading “The Dream” by Chris Taylor. I looked at several options, and it was clear to me that Arkana Spiritual Center in the Sacred Valley was the best choice. From the beginning stages of planning, my contact and communication with Arkana was important for my decision to visit and work with them. They were very informative and caring, offering advice and preliminary steps to be taken prior to arriving, regarding diet, fitness and travel. Through the Arkana guidance, my travel was smooth and coordinated well with a visit to Cusco. I was afforded either a shuttle or a cab from the airport to Cusco and later to the Sacred Valley. Upon my arrival at Arkana Sacred Valley, there was an immediate sense of peace and harmony both from the natural surroundings and the wonderful people working there. There was more a sense of family and community than staff and guests. I was immediately relaxed and at ease as well as feeling energized and inspired. The care and attention provided from everyone at Arkana allowed me to feel as if I were the #1 priority, even though there were other guests. The work of the staff regarding the ayahuasca ceremonies was amazing. After gathering personal information regarding what I was hoping to achieve in a very casual setting with the shaman and others, I felt as if each ceremony was curated and focused on me. That I was in a reciprocal relationship with everyone, and that their focus was to enable me to be open to receive all of what was being offered. Each and every ritual and ceremony was filled with so much energy of love, caring and compassion that words cannot do it justice or hardly describe it. I feel as if I were opened up and allowed to have the deepest parts of my spirit revealed, released, nurtured and re-energized. I reconnected to parts of myself I had buried or forgotten. I learned so much about myself and the universe and about my connection to everyone and everything in it. Arkana opens doors and allows for one to venture outward in so many directions. I have been reborn and have embarked on the fulfillment of my life’s journey. Aside from the ayahuasca ceremonies, there were guided visits to local towns and Machu Picchu which were vibrant, colorful and amazing. The food provided at Arkana was wonderful, especially for someone like myself with dietary restrictions. The wonderful people of Arkana are gifted healers who have given me new life.

It has been about a month since I first ventured into the Amazon jungle and arrived at Arkana Spiritual Centre. This was my first Ayahuasca retreat and I can not imagine going anywhere else in the future. The whole process runs like a well oiled machine; the activities were great, the food was nourishing, Jose and the team of facilitators are a group of warm, insightful, and magical humans. They each care deeply, hold space for each individual and have an ability to create a feeling of safety and trust almost immediately. The energy in the jungle brings another level of magic to the experience. Combined with the power of the shamans, this is an experience not to miss. Working with the shames, especially Justina was beautiful and if nothing else, I feel blessed to have witnessed their culture so intimately. This was one of the most significant weeks of my life. I have come back to friends and family saying that I am radiating a new energy that they just can’t quite put their finger on. I cannot wait to continue my integration and return for more. Thank you, Arkana.

Wow. I don’t know where to begin. It’s only been a little over a week since I left Arkana. I’m still processing the whole experience and the medicine is still working on me, but I can say it’s been truly amazing. This place is magical and beautiful. I felt safe and at home right away. The facilitators and shamans make this place, all of them are unconditionally loving and they truly care for everyone on the retreat.

This is the perfect place to experience Ayahuasca.

Thank you everyone at Arkana, for everything <3

My son and I went to Arkana Spiritual centre in the scared valley Peru. I can’t begin to tell you want an amazing time we had. We went on spiritual journey that took us both to the most unexpected places. I of course can only really speak of my journey and how I learned more about myself in that week than in my whole 56 years on this earth.
It all started with me asking my son if he wanted to trek Machu Picchu with me of the Easter break. He had other ideas and asked if we could go to a retreat in the scared Valley Called Arkana Spiritual Centre. Part of this was to do the Ayahuasca Ceremony, which I had never heard of, but I trusted my son and was willing to give it ago.
On our arrival to Arkana Spiritual Centre nestled next to the Urubamba River amongst the beautiful Andean Mountains, we were welcome by the staff and some local ladies with lamas in tow, for an Aussie this was very surreal. The moment I arrived, I felt very calm the staff were just wonderful and the food was so much more than I expected it was sensational.
So the first night we did the Ayahuasca Ceremony I had no idea what to expect, I was surprisingly calm the staff and especially the shamans made you feel that way. When I took the plant base medicine I was very relaxed the shaman start to sing and I was transported. What I saw and felt is for me and I really can’t explain the journey I took, but I can say that night was the start of my life changing. The following nights of doing the Ayahuasca Ceremony did really three main things for me.
    1. Showed me what is holding me back from true happiness
    2. How to get rid those things
    3. It gave me clear directions for my life.
I can’t explain how it works, but doing the Ayahuasca Ceremony revealed to me how we are all interconnected with each other and with every other living creature and plant. The amazing thing is the shaman’s singing is calming, you feel the vibrations of the song going through you, calming you, directing you. As I said before it was the most amazing experience I have ever had, and how luck was I to have this experience with my son.
The Arkana Spirutal Centre is very professional, providing a very safe environment for all those that attend. I would recommend this to anyone who feels lost who wants to reconnect to their spirituality. I personally can’t wait for my next experience

I had never tried psychedelics before and was unsure how to safely go about it. After reading Chris Taylor’s The Dream, a first person account of his experience with Arkana and ayahuasca, I signed up for a week long retreat in the Sacred Valley of Peru. My time at Arkana and my experience with ayahuasca exceeded all of my expectations. Specific info was provided prior to the journey about how to prepare myself mentally and physically, what to pack, along with a medical history interview, and contact info for any questions that came up.

The Arkana Spiritual Center setting was beautiful with comfortable accommodations, an attentive staff and excellent food. The stay incorporated several day trips to local towns accompanied by guides, including a trip to Machu Picchu. The outings, along with other onsite daytime activities, were a marvelous contrast to the ayahuasca enhanced spiritual journeys in the evenings. San Pedro and Bufo were also incorporated in spiritual endeavors. The shaman and the facilitators that guided our ayahuasca experiences were knowledgeable and focused entirely on our individual goals and overall wellbeing. Their advice extended to re-integration strategies and has guided me in the year since my journey. My experience with Arkana was life altering, and I can’t imagine undertaking that kind of journey with any other group. I would highly recommend Arkana to anyone looking for a caring, supportive, reverent journey into your own inner reality.
