Arkana Spiritual Center

Iquitos and Urubamba in Peru

Our Program
At Arkana, we create the space for you to get in touch with your truth, opening your path for deeper meaning and greater fulfillment in your life. We work with ancestral medicines such as Ayahuasca, San Pedro, Bufo Alvarius, Rapé , using the traditional practices of the indigenous cultures of the Peruvian Amazon. We currently operate two centers in Peru, one in the Peruvian Amazon and a second one in the Sacred Valley (close to Machu Picchu), and one in Mexico, the choice is yours.

With great respect for the plants and the knowledge and healing that comes with them, our lineage of Shipibo shamans set the stage for truly deep and profound healing. Awaken your inner power through their sacred and powerful icaros (healing songs), and discover your connection to all things by exploring some of the 2.2 million hectare Pacaya Samiria National Reserve which is our backyard. Nourish your body and soul with fresh, clean, delicious meals that promote your Ayahuasca experience, and integrate healthy habits into your routine with our yoga classes and extensive selection of gym equipment for all levels. We believe the health of physical body sets the foundation for the health of the energetic body – Often ignored in this type of spiritual work, we find this to be an important part of the healing process, so you can begin implementing the healthy habits that will carry this work with you into your life back home. Finally, relax your mind and spirit with sound baths, meditations, breathwave sessions, and OM circles, or simply enjoy the tranquil views of both sunrise and sunset from our front porch on the banks of the Ucayali River, surrounded by lush biodiversity and the mesmerizing sounds of the jungle.

Arkana’s exceptional team of highly-trained Shipibo Master Shamans represent an unbroken lineage of plant medicine work. With a combined history of over 70 years of experience working closely with Ayahuasca and other master plant teachers of the jungle, our compassionate healers lovingly share their teachings, healing songs (icaros), capabilities, and knowledge with integrity and honor. We strive to maintain the traditional practices passed down through thousands of years of indigenous Amazonian culture, in order to continue to promote the true purpose and nature of plant medicine work.

Experiencing the medicines with us is a transformative personal journey, and so much more. We also work closely with our local community, the Amazonian village of Libertad, to ensure that our Center can benefit and give back to the people who have so generously let us into their homes and hearts. We create employment opportunities, teach free English classes, provide a space for the ladies to sell their handmade crafts, and assist in construction projects, among other things. Our latest endeavor is outfitting the entire village with free solar panels, so every house can have light and electricity. When you join us, you are helping the rainforest and the Amazon communities that live here.

Guests that come to our Center often say they feel like “part of the family” with us – that’s no coincidence, as we are one big family at Arkana! The people that are with you throughout your experience can simply facilitate your own healing journey or become an integral part of it. Our experienced, loving, and professional team of caregivers welcomes you to join our tribe, where we strive to make you feel at home and at ease, supported and cared for with all the love and compassion that is at the core of the plant medicines and people we work with.

Ayahuasca is a powerful medicine that offers us the opportunity to understand our true nature, by shining a light onto our darkness, and holding a mirror up to our fears, negative thought patterns, and self-limiting beliefs. We provide the environment and expertise of a team of highly skilled, warm, compassionate Shamans and facilitators to guide you through the process of awakening, of choosing differently, healing, and expanding. It is a slow but steady path towards freedom – from fear, from illusion, from self-constructed boundaries – resulting in a lighter, brighter, more authentic self, and the full experience of love. It is our honor to help you on this most fulfilling of all journeys: the journey back home.

We look forward to having you with us!

Lots of Love,
The Team

An Unparalleled Journey of Healing and Transformation at Arkana Spiritual Center

“Enjoy your breath” reads a neon sign at the Chilloca in Arkana Jungle, far deep in the Peruvian Amazon.

If there ever was a moment I can identify, in which I began to fully understand the bliss of enjoying my breath, most certainly it started off with my first Sapo ceremony in Arkana, back in 2019.

My last retreat was a week ago, and I already miss that place and can’t wait to go back. Arkana Spiritual Center in the Amazon Jungle is truly a unique experience that really stands apart. Nestled deep in the heart of the Peruvian Amazon, this sacred space offers a profound opportunity to partake in a powerful (and never ending) spiritual awakening, with a harmonious blend of the healing experience through both, Ayahuasca and Sapo ceremonies — an incredibly rare combination that you will find hard to replicate elsewhere at this level!

The absolute differentiator of this retreat is how seamlessly and harmoniously it blends these two powerful and transformative practices. The Shipibo tradition with Ayahuasca, and Sapo medicine, from the Sonoran desert. Over the course of the week, I had the honor of experiencing both ceremonies independently. The Ayahuasca ceremonies, led by the deeply connected and authentic Shipibo healers, were journeys that opened my heart and soul in ways I never thought possible. The Sapo ceremonies were equally profound, offering a unique path to clarity, release, and renewal. The synergy of these experiences was unlike anything I have encountered before. Maestro José, and the entire team – Billy, Theo, Pepino, Imani, Vint, my eternal gratitude.

What makes Arkana so special is its authentic connection to the Shipibo tradition, a connection that is one of its core pillars. This is embodied by the presence of Maestra Justina, the leader of the shamans. Her wisdom, humility, and deep-rooted knowledge of the Amazonian plant medicine traditions percolade to every chaman of the family and bring a unique depth to each and every ceremony. The shamans songs, or icaros, seemed to weave through every cell of my being, guiding and nurturing me through the most challenging and enlightening moments, even when she was not there, but through her children who are obviously also shamans: Maestro Luis and Maestro Eligio.

The center itself is a sanctuary of peace and introspection, surrounded by the vibrant, living jungle. The staff’s warmth and the support provided throughout the retreat made me feel held and cared for every step of the way. There is a strong sense of family, community and shared purpose at Arkana, where every individual — whether a guest, staff or a shaman — is dedicated to creating a safe and transformative environment.

It’s an experience that will stay with me for a lifetime, one of healing, connection, and profound transformation – as Arkana’s mission statement reads- “changing the world, one heart at a time”.

I went to the Arkana Amazon jungle retreat as a skeptic, unsure of what to expect having not done any spiritual retreat before. The practices felt unfamiliar at first, I found myself lost and worried, unsure if I am doing it right. But by the end, I experienced a profound shift in my mindset. The focus on mindfulness, self-reflection, and healthy habits, ensured we left as better, more grounded individuals. What started as doubt turned into deep clarity and personal transformation. Truly life-changing.

In the retreat, they offer fascinating jungle excursions, delicious and healthy meals that changed my diet, and clean, well-kept rooms with daily service and there’s even weekly hand-washed laundry. Everything is incredibly well-organized, with excellent security and helpful, welcoming staff and facilitators. The beautiful pool and stunning architecture of the maloca is something I’ll remember for life.

    Vacations for the Soul

I just completed my second retreat at Arkana, and I can only say thank you.
Both of my retreats have been wonderful experiences for me and my family. They have changed my life in many ways.

Arkana is a safe space where you can take the time to reconnect with yourself, your essence, and who you truly are. It’s not just a place to experience healing and open your mind to the magic of the universe, which is sometimes even beyond explanation, but also a beautiful space where the entire team takes care of you and makes you feel at home.

The food is incredible; from the first day, you can feel the effects of good nutrition as your body and mind find balance. An experience that every human being deserves to have. When one of us heals, our loved ones heal as well.

Eternal gratitude to this wonderful place, Arkana.

I had done a lot of research before I chose the retreat that I felt was best for me. A lot of the retreats were very expensive, $10,000-$15,000, which some may consider a little steep for seniors, retirees and those on a fixed budget.

So, I chose Arkana In Peru for my first experience and it was the perfect choice. First of all it was affordable, the staff was warm, friendly and knowledgeable. The food was prepared fresh daily, and it was both healthy and delicious.

The ceremonies were sacred, the Sharman’s were spiritually grounded and experienced in the process with the different plants. And we received an added bonus, the owner of the spiritual center was there with us during our week. He is an amazing human being, warm, friendly, loving, very humble and dedicated to providing a safe place for all those seeking change in their lives.

I didn’t really know what to expect on this retreat or with the medicine and went on a whim with my elderly tía and dad as this was my tía’s idea. I was given so much through the medicine and the maestros!! The facilitators treated me and my family with so much care and concern and were so attentive and helpful throughout our stay! The maestros and each facilitator (Tamana, John, Imani, Stacy, and Chandler) held space for myself and my tía especially when she was feeling frightened and ready to leave! Everything about Arkana was beautiful and well thought out! The chef and his meals were delicious! The guides that took us out Falcon and Pecho were great! Each maestro and their Icaros were beautiful Maestro Samuel, Maestro Luis, and Maestro Grimaldo are out of this world! I left Arkana with an immense sense of gratitude and steadfast desire to change because I was changed and I am a changed person! Thank you Tamana and Nina for providing Spanish translations for my family and each of the facilitators for taking such great care of us as we opened ourselves up to become vulnerable! The price is high but having had the experience I did I honestly can say that it is worth it! I hope to return again with more of my family and loved ones!
