Arkana Spiritual Center

Iquitos and Urubamba in Peru

Our Program
At Arkana, we create the space for you to get in touch with your truth, opening your path for deeper meaning and greater fulfillment in your life. We work with ancestral medicines such as Ayahuasca, San Pedro, Bufo Alvarius, Rapé , using the traditional practices of the indigenous cultures of the Peruvian Amazon. We currently operate two centers in Peru, one in the Peruvian Amazon and a second one in the Sacred Valley (close to Machu Picchu), and one in Mexico, the choice is yours.

With great respect for the plants and the knowledge and healing that comes with them, our lineage of Shipibo shamans set the stage for truly deep and profound healing. Awaken your inner power through their sacred and powerful icaros (healing songs), and discover your connection to all things by exploring some of the 2.2 million hectare Pacaya Samiria National Reserve which is our backyard. Nourish your body and soul with fresh, clean, delicious meals that promote your Ayahuasca experience, and integrate healthy habits into your routine with our yoga classes and extensive selection of gym equipment for all levels. We believe the health of physical body sets the foundation for the health of the energetic body – Often ignored in this type of spiritual work, we find this to be an important part of the healing process, so you can begin implementing the healthy habits that will carry this work with you into your life back home. Finally, relax your mind and spirit with sound baths, meditations, breathwave sessions, and OM circles, or simply enjoy the tranquil views of both sunrise and sunset from our front porch on the banks of the Ucayali River, surrounded by lush biodiversity and the mesmerizing sounds of the jungle.

Arkana’s exceptional team of highly-trained Shipibo Master Shamans represent an unbroken lineage of plant medicine work. With a combined history of over 70 years of experience working closely with Ayahuasca and other master plant teachers of the jungle, our compassionate healers lovingly share their teachings, healing songs (icaros), capabilities, and knowledge with integrity and honor. We strive to maintain the traditional practices passed down through thousands of years of indigenous Amazonian culture, in order to continue to promote the true purpose and nature of plant medicine work.

Experiencing the medicines with us is a transformative personal journey, and so much more. We also work closely with our local community, the Amazonian village of Libertad, to ensure that our Center can benefit and give back to the people who have so generously let us into their homes and hearts. We create employment opportunities, teach free English classes, provide a space for the ladies to sell their handmade crafts, and assist in construction projects, among other things. Our latest endeavor is outfitting the entire village with free solar panels, so every house can have light and electricity. When you join us, you are helping the rainforest and the Amazon communities that live here.

Guests that come to our Center often say they feel like “part of the family” with us – that’s no coincidence, as we are one big family at Arkana! The people that are with you throughout your experience can simply facilitate your own healing journey or become an integral part of it. Our experienced, loving, and professional team of caregivers welcomes you to join our tribe, where we strive to make you feel at home and at ease, supported and cared for with all the love and compassion that is at the core of the plant medicines and people we work with.

Ayahuasca is a powerful medicine that offers us the opportunity to understand our true nature, by shining a light onto our darkness, and holding a mirror up to our fears, negative thought patterns, and self-limiting beliefs. We provide the environment and expertise of a team of highly skilled, warm, compassionate Shamans and facilitators to guide you through the process of awakening, of choosing differently, healing, and expanding. It is a slow but steady path towards freedom – from fear, from illusion, from self-constructed boundaries – resulting in a lighter, brighter, more authentic self, and the full experience of love. It is our honor to help you on this most fulfilling of all journeys: the journey back home.

We look forward to having you with us!

Lots of Love,
The Team

I have struggled with mental health issues for a good part of my life. I have partial hearing loss and spent a good portion of my life learning to zone out rather than face my problem. That put me very behind in life in terms of education and socialization skills. I struggled with addiction as a release mechanism. My alcohol abuse screwed up my digestive system. It was just one thing after another leading down to my personal destruction. Once I hit my breaking point, I finally tried everything to turn my life around in a positive light but had setbacks such as an abusive relationship and a toxic family member. It has literally been one thing after another. I had been making a huge difference in my life but struggled dramatically with PTSD, anxiety and depression. I literally tried everything from prescription drugs to vitamins to AA/NA meetings to getting into fulfilling work…the list could go on. When I heard about Ayahuasca, I was so intrigued and had to do more research on it. I have literally spent the last 5 years dreaming of coming to the rainforest for healing. I just knew that it is exactly what I have been needing.

My boyfriend and I did a LOT of research… and literally I mean A LOT before we made our decision. Neither of us had ever been to Peru and while our main focus was healing, we also wanted to see the culture, have some adventure and visit Machu Picchu. We thought about working with the medicine in the Cusco area but read that the real authentic ceremonies happen in the rainforest and decided we wanted that experience and I am so glad that we did. Pulse had everything that we wanted! It was definitely a little more spendy than we originally wanted, but we were so grateful that everything was planned out for us once we were there!

I was in the rainforest for 7 days and did 4 ceremonies. I literally saw the Earth become sucked dry of its resources, faced my own death, transformed into a spider, saw the devil and felt God. My mind was so clear by the 2nd ceremony that I was able to just go down the line on a list of hundreds of issues and the spirits were cleaning each part of it. I had a LOT of toxins and chemicals in my body I had to flush out. It was disgusting when it was happening but nice to have them out. The first ceremony was the most intense for me as I had lots of visuals and extreme darkness facing I needed to do, the 2nd ceremony was focused on healing, the 3rd was focused on facing my death and addiction and the 4th was a smaller dose and I was able to just fully appreciate the ceremony and the Shaman’s singing. My heart was shot at a lot but I had a shield covering it but I could just feel how much I have been through and it almost felt like I was in warrior training.

The facilitators were always there for me in ceremony. My first ceremony, I was somewhat out of control but the facilitators were very supportive and understanding of everything that I was going through. I didn’t sleep much and spent a lot of my down time reflecting or trying to catch up on rest, but it was nice to have the jungle excursions added on as well. If you do the 14 day Machu Picchu tour, the mountain house San Pedro ceremony is just absolutely amazing! Such a beautiful setting and so much love from the facilitators there. I learned how to breathe properly on that day!

Since I have been back, I have noticed many positive impacts on my mental health. My heart used to race just to race and it doesn’t do that at all anymore! My anxiety has improved dramatically. I have been sleeping better and haven’t had to take sleeping medicine at all since I’ve been back (& I used to HAVE to take sleeping medicine every night). My digestive system has improved in terms where I can eat certain foods that won’t affect my stomach in the negative way it did before. My overall mood is better and my mind is more clear. It’s crazy, I have actually visualized in some of my dreams lately and I have never been able to visualize anything. I think my 3rd eye was so blocked that I just completely lost that capability. I have definitely grown and improved a lot just from 4 ceremonies. I obviously still have more room that I could grow and would definitely go back for more healing in a heartbeat but it’s nice to feel content with where I am now as well.

14 Day Machu Picchu and Amazon Adventure. Cusco to Iquitos.

After booking the trip, I had lingering doubts as to whether it was really for me and whether or not I had made a mistake. I had never travelled to a foreign country on my own before and I had limited experience with psychedelics. However I knew I needed some form of retribution from modern western life and a break from any kind of routine. Instantly when I arrived in Cusco, I was warmly welcomed by an incredibly friendly facilitator and it was great to be around such like-minded people in the tour group. I’m glad I chose to start my trip in Cusco because on the first full day we went to a beautiful mountain house and garden to take the San Pedro medicine. This was a pleasant and gentle settling in to the philosophies of the plant medicines and was a much needed day of peace and relaxation which quashed the last strains of anxiety I was harbouring. From that point on, everything was superbly organised, making transport and expeditions effortless for the traveller, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the tour and the stunning surroundings. Furthermore, everything was done with a smile. For the second part of the journey, I travelled to the Ayahuasca Adventure Centre in the Amazon rainforest. Over the course of my time there, not only did it fully rejuvenate my mind, my body and my spirit, but I embraced the culture and traditions of the Shamans and the medicine with open arms. They are very professional at what they do and I felt as safe as I’ve felt anywhere with the facilitators and Shamans watching over me at the ceremonies. I had some unforgettable and life-changing experiences with Ayahuasca, made all the more special by the Shamans, facilitators and people around me on the trip. Pulse Tours have guided me back to my spiritual path and I feel like I have found my spiritual home. I hope with all my heart that I will go back there one day. Take plenty of spending money though because there are so many opportunities to purchase souvenirs and there’s so much gorgeous craftsmanship and artwork on offer. Overall, ten out of ten! The only downside was having to readjust to office life, which proved difficult. You are so much more aware of the fallacies in the western world. Sat here daydreaming and wondering how I’m going to better this travel experience!
