Unfortunately I can not recommend this place.
I have sat a 6 week plant medicine diet in the garden of peace. The land is beautiful and very magical. The shaman and his family are very kind and have a lot of wisdom. But management of the place and facilitators miss very basic awareness around space holding and around trauma. I am a somatic therapist, trained in trauma, attachment and authentic leadership. Sadly, facilitators luck awareness in all of those fields, even though they worked with the medicine for many years, they still luck a very basic energetic atunement skills. Some examples of it is that on the ceremony nights, around midnight when the ceremony is officially over, the facilitators start chitchatting in between themselves and with people, dispersing the energy created during the ceremony, most of the time many people are still under the effect of the medicine, listening to other people talking is usually very interrupting to the healing process. sudden chitchat drastically changes the energy in the space. There were way too many other examples of how not attuned and at times neglecting the facilitators were. Some of their behaviour is actually dangerous – like not giving proper post diet instructions around food. Or not properly and wholeheartedly attending to people who are asking for help during the ceremony. This can actually be a re-traumatising experience for some. We all have stress and trauma stored in our bodies from past experiences, and in plant medicine work, this is very often coming up to the surface. It is of extreme importance that people who are with us, when we do this work are properly trained, so that they can create a missing relational experience – that is the healing experience, instead of potentially re traumatising. The common theme that I was noticing is that idea that “It is the diet, it is your past wounding talking” Instead of taking responsibility and saying ” Sorry, we messed things up, we will ensure, this is not going to happen again” _ Yes, our reactions are accumulation of our past experiences, as well as a direct response to the present moment, it is both, but this of no means should be used to avoid ones responsibility to provide a safe and caring container. We heal not by being poked in the wounds, but by having a new, different relational experience, it is of a hight importance to have a very safe and caring container. So if you have been neglected to some extend as a child, being in a neglecting environment will not support the healing process.

The Garden of Peace is aptly named. A peaceful beautiful retreat on the edge of the jungle near Lamas. Shipibo country. It is run by Lara Polley and Ash Avery…. very professional and caring and authentic to the shipibo way. My journey was with master plant dieta and ayahuasca and I was specifically there for PTSD and fibromyalgia healing.. and I received exactly what I needed… and more… The staff and Shaman were fabulous and I cannot speak highly enough of the care I received. Mosquitoes were my only issue… rainy season… There is a beautiful river for swimming in… wondrous insects… birds… monkeys… the jungle surrounding is alive with joy… highly recommend

The Garden of Peace (GoP) is just that, a beautiful, peaceful retreat set in the jungles of Peru about an hour’s drive from Tarapoto. This was my first foray into plant medicines, in particular participating in Ayuhuasca ceremonies, but will definitely not be my last.

The information provided on the GoP website in the lead-up to my retreat was very informative and provided me with a sense of calm and belief that I would be in good hands. GoP proved to be a very safe place and I felt comfortable at all times, mainly due to the amazing staff.

Kahla, who was leading the retreat in Lara’s absence was extremely capable and I always felt she was in control and had guests needs as a top priority. I cannot thank her enough for her efforts, and her calm demeanor. Equally the staff were simply amazing, from the preparation of food, through to assisting during ceremony; their dedication, love, support and empathy helped me during some challenging times.
The knowledge and skills of all the staff were regularly on show and helped educate me on the powers of plant medicine. And of course their beautiful singing and playing of music throughout ceremony, in conjunction with the curandero was truly magical.

Gumer, the curandero was simply amazing. You can feel his power of healing come through and without him I don’t believe I would have received so much in the way of healing on so many levels. I cannot begin to thank him enough.

Be mindful, this is not “cocktails by the pool’ and you are in the jungle so be prepared for the basics. Having said that, the basics, as in meals, were healthy vegetarian meals prepared and served with love. There is a beautiful river to bathe in daily, which is also a great place for meditating and re-engaging with nature. I saw a vast array of wildlife including hawks, monkeys, incredible butterflies, caterpillars and an array of other amazing creatures.

I will be returning next year to continue my journey, and cannot recommend the GoP highly enough for anyone considering taking plant medicine. Everything about the GoP was perfect in its own way. Blessings and love to everyone at GoP and see you in 2019

Lara and Ashley, the shamans and entire team are really amazing and what they do. If you are looking for some serious/real/raw healing. The experience of solitude for two weeks was the hardest for me maybe but everyone is super comforting and there for you. I really believe this medicine saved me a lot of pain I hold in as a person. I am trying to make it back to beautiful Peru to do a cleanse again. Just money is my issue till I save up. But again, the experience in itself is something I’ll hold onto for a life time. I won’t forget what I learned there.

I have visited a couple of retreat centres in peru and this is by far the best.. Safe and secure environment, knowledgeable staff and a wonderfully family run space.

The grounds are simply beautiful, the private houses are a wonderful place to heal and reflect. The river is beautiful and very healing. The medicine is powerful and insightful, the healers are caring, kind and i always felt like my safety and healing were priority.

I received deep healing at the garden of peace. Although at times my stay was particularly tough due to the silent isolation of the diet, however it has been life changing for me. I am braver, running my own business, healthy and happy. All of this is partly due to my stay ina the garden and the integration work I did afterwards. I truly love this place.. I feel like the staff and everyone I met here will be my friends for life.. Thank you Ashley and Lara

Absolutely wonderful place! The staff work so hard to look after you and support in your healing work, The healers or shamans are authentic Peruvians who have undergone years of training to be able to help you to heal. The place itself is stunningly beautiful, you really do feel held and cherished in the arms of Mother Earth here! Highly highly recommended!

I did the 10 day women’s retreat at the Garden of Peace in 2017 when I was 22, in the beautiful Peruvian Amazon, surrounded by trees, a river to bathe in every day. It was a time of great darkness and confusion for me. Going to Peru and embarking on the journey that is a masterplant dieta was the sole light and hope for my life. I felt safe at the Garden. I felt like the beautiful people working there knew what they were doing and that they took the work very, very seriously.

It wasn’t easy and it isn’t *the perfect place*. But it felt right for me. Even though the retreat hosts were accessible after dieta for any questions or worries, I did miss some form of aftercare at the Garden itself. Although I only realise this a year later. I’m sure the Garden is working very hard at bettering itself all the time and I recommend it to anyone interested in working with these beautiful plant medicines.

Most of all, I feel immensely grateful for my experience and am quite sure I will go back one day. Namaste 🙂

I have completed 2 diets at The Garden of Peace and each time I have been treated with the upmost care and attention of the staff there. They are super knowledgeable and respectful with their prescription of plants to diet with and hold a strict and physically and energetically safe space. They screen the participants thoroughly to keep a good mix within the group and the ceremonies are held with much care and wisdom. The Garden of Peace and my experiences there have made me a better human. Thank you to all the staff and of course the plants. This is the place to go for Aya and dieta if you want a deep and transformative healing experience

Beautiful place and wonderful space, one you return to. Experienced, wise and caring staff, powerful shamans and a great variety of master plants allways there for you to work with and get some serious, loving stuff done. Small groups, personal, beautiful (small) animals in the surrounding djungle that sings for you in the evenings. You really couldn’t wish for anything more or a more powerful process and dieta. A good network of people, so many from all over our globe who love this place.

I had the good fortune and grace to be invited to work and participate in two retreats at the garden of peace this year. It was my introduction to plant medicine and I couldn’t have felt in safer hands. I had a particular enquiry I was exploring rather than an illness, although I know healing occured and is still occuring on many levels. Lara and Ashley and their carefully chosen team of managers, volunteers and shamans only have your very best interests at heart. They are both sincere travellers on this road called life and welcome all who wish to join them on their journey.
