San Pedro Workshops

Lentag, Ecuador

The Setting

A beautiful view of Vilcabamba, EcuadorWe offer San Pedro ceremonies each week in a cozy, private, safe, and relaxing space, The countryside around Santa Isabel, Ecuador (just outside of Cuenca) is stunningly beautiful and provides the backdrop for what is sure to be a profound experience for you, as it has consistently been for us as well.

The Medicine

Slices of the powerful cactus, San PedroSan Pedro, also known as Huachuma or Wachuma, is a sacred cactus that has been used in shamanic plant medicine ceremonies for thousands of years in the Amazonian region.

It is said to be a plant teacher, and you will quickly discover why as you begin to have a conversation with the spirit of the plant, which is known as Grandfather San Pedro. Because, just a like a grandfather, he can swaddle you with a level of emotional warmth and tender affection that will touch your heart in a way you might not have even felt before, and he can also provide you with tough-love advice if it’s needed too.

The Ceremony

plant-teacherEvery day starts with a warm cup of tea of coffee and friendly conversation as we settle into the new day.

Then, around 10a.m. Steve smudges us all with white sage to clear any sort of negative energies that may be present.

Next, we sit in a small circle, and Steve shares some basic guidelines to the ceremony, and then one-by-one, we each share our intentions with the medicine. This might be as simple as “My intention is to know myself better”, or you might choose to go into more detail.

The medicine is then poured in a glass for each person, and after taking as much time with it as you would prefer, you are welcomed to drink the medicine and find a nice place to settle in.

From then on, the primary element to the ceremony is a conversation that will begin in your head between you and the medicine. You might liken this to speaking to yourself silently, although it will very likely soon be clear that the entity you’re speaking to is a very wise plant teacher who is lovingly known as Grandfather San Pedro.

Just like a grandfather, he can swaddle you with a level of emotional warmth and tender affection that will touch your heart in a way you might not have ever felt before, and he can also provide you with tough-love advice if it’s needed too.

You will feel the primary effects of the medicine for about 10 hours, during which time you’ll be given plenty of space for solitude, surrounded by the amazing beauty of the Ecuadorian countryside.

This provides many opportunities to look inside yourself in many different ways, and you will have an unlimited amount of Steve’s support, not only as a warm, gentle human being, but also as a trained and experienced counselor, with specialties in addictions and childhood trauma.

Steve is always within earshot if support is needed, and he checks on you periodically to see how you’re doing. You’re also welcome to roam around the property to find whatever little perch suits you best.

Midway through the ceremony, fresh fruit is served, which is always a welcomed treat, and at the end of each ceremony, a warm and hardy meal is served which really warms your bones to the core.

Finally, Steve provides angel card readings which you will likely find quite illuminating and may provide some clarification to your experiences throughout the day.

The Facilitator

The San Pedro ceremony facilitator - Steve Eagle SewellWorkshops are held at the Eagle’s Nest – home of Steve Eagle Sewell – who is self-described as a plant medicine specialist and has chosen to dedicate his life to providing plant medicine to those who need it most.

And after a 2-year apprenticeship in Peru, he’s also facilitated ceremony for over 3,000 people and drank the medicine himself over 500 times. He is well acquainted with it’s healing power as the ultimate healer of addiction, dis-ease and dis-order.

The Bottom Line

If you want to discover who you are, what you believe in, how to heal, and how to find your path, you’ve found the right place 🙂

    Where to start……

What an amazing, life altering experience that I am absolutely grateful for and will never forget.
He has the perfect location – photos do not come close to doing this place justice – it Is simply stunning!
From moment one, I felt welcome and comfortable. Steve has a lovely laid back demeanour which suits the treatment perfectly. The medicine is mind blowing, and has an uncanny knack of giving you exactly what you need/ask for. I got so many answers to so many questions, and then some more.
I’m still trying to get my head around exactly what I experienced over the 17 days I stayed with Steve. But in a nutshell, I was able to deal with 50 odd years of pain, grief, stress, guilt, anger and more. I was able to let my guard down, and to truly heal – all while feeling completely safe and “held’.
San Pedro is just absolutely amazing medicine, which seem to have an intelligence and is so warm and comforting at the same time. I’m 53 years old and I never felt uncomfortable or scared in any way.

I highly recommend Steve, and San Pedro Workshops to anyone who seeks healing, or to learn more about themselves. The location, the lodgings and grounds, the doggos, and Steve himself, are fantastic.

This was hands down – the most absolutely incredible experience of my entire life!

I will definitely be going back, and I hope for longer next time.

Thank you so much Steve. I am eternally grateful to you!

I’m very glad that I’ve chosen this place for my first San Pedro Ceremony. I did a lot of research online beforehand and I also have deep respect for the medicine. When I arrived Steve and his three dogs gave me a warm welcome, his cat joined us a little later 😉 His garden and the surroundinngs are beautiful and peaceful. I was a little anxious but Steve took all the time I needed and after our conversation I hade a very good feeling for the upcoming ceremony. The experience itself is hard to put into words. I came here with an intention and in the end I got way more out of it than expected. San Pedro is definitely a teacher and he touched my heart in a way I hadn’t experienced for a very long time. I had to cry and it was so freeing and now a few days later I still feel more positive about my life in general. During the ceremony I spent most of the time by myself, knowing that Steve is watching over me and he actually came at the exact right moment to guide me and help me get an better understanding of what I just experienced.

Everything on his website is up to date and if you came this far and read this review I definitely want to reconfirm that this is the place you should go. I would go back in a heartbeat and hope that I will in the future. Thank you Steve for everything!!!

I went to Steve’s San Pedro retreat center for four days. The experience was unparalleled. He did a great job of walking me through the process. I was nervous because it was a new experience. And I learned more about myself than I could have in any other way. I went with the intention of understanding what held me back. The first day, I grieved infinished business from my past. And on the second day I realized, instantly and to my astonishment, why I held myself back.
I highly recommend Steve’s work. It made a significant difference, for myself and other people who attended.

Take my review in context since clearly many people have had a great experience with Steve. I suffer from panic disorder. I booked a 1-day retreat with Steve, and the night before I couldn’t sleep. Around 4am, I had a panic attack where my heart rate spiked to more than 170 and I couldn’t breathe. It took my partner some time to calm me down, and I realized there was no way I was going to be able to get into the car to head to his place. Panic sucks.

I sent Steve and his driver a late night message saying I don’t think I was in the right headspace to go. I felt bad for canceling, although I think it was the right decision based on his reply to me. I’m at peace with my decision not to go.

He ended his response to me with (direct quote): “Enjoy your anxiety cause you’re gonna have it now for a long time. Don’t ever even think of coming back here ! ”

Make what you will of his response, obviously he spent time preparing for my arrival and he can certainly be angry, but I think someone dealing with broken people should be more empathetic.

I am eternally grateful I had the opportunity to spend 4 weeks with Steve (and Denning, 3 amazing dogs and one amazing cat 😉 ). I learned soo much. I could not have come to a better place. I was able to go very deep, and take a proper look at the most important areas of my life: Relationship, work/vocation, health and healing, and spirit.
I don’t say these things lightly. I have done quite a number of ceremonies in the past in Brazil, Peru and Ecuador mainly. I have done cemermony with indigenous people far away from civilization, with facilitators born and raised in western culture, and with Ayahuasca churches in Brazil. Some experiences were exceptional, some good, some not so good in terms of the facilitators in my opinion.
Steve and his place, however, were excellent, really beyond what I had expected. I had been guided by my inner voice (aka intuition) to show up here. And it proved to be worth it – and in many ways more so than I could have ever imagined.
All I can say is thank you ! 🙂

This is a place I can wholeheartedly recommend you go to, if you long for more depth and healing in your life.

I came for two ceremonies, and I wish I had been able to stay longer. You are in great hands with Steve, and you can feel his respect for the medicine as well as the medicine’s respect of him. I felt cared for and taken care of during the whole experience with integrity and compassion. The property is gorgeous and you feel like you are being hugged by the Andes mountains. There are three dogs and a cat, the dogs act like guardians during your journey as well by coming to sit by you in intervals (if you don’t want them near you can also easily shoo them away but I absolutely loved their presence near me). After dinner which is usually a deliciously prepared and nourishing soup, we had time to reflect as a group together.

As a woman especially I am cautious about where I go when working with medicine and bringing in that aspect of vulnerability. I felt very safe and secure here, and Steve and I had some deep conversations in the sacred maloca that I will be remembering for a long time. I am so grateful to have met Huachuma here, to have had the deep ancestral and personal healing experience I had, and I can confidently recommend Steve’s place.

Steve and Sammy were great hosts, they clearly love the work they do. We had been planning to visit for a while and we finally made the trip happen. It was well worth it. The views are amazing and their medicine is powerful. The fruit salad they serve you during the experience is amazing. Shout out to Denning too who is an amazing healer himself.

I attended a San Pedro 30-day retreat with Steve S. at his facility, San Pedro Workshops, from January 8th, 2023 through February 7th, 2023. Steve’s workshop facility is located in the Andes mountains about 1 1/2 hours outside of Cuenca, Ecuador. The location itself is safe, beautiful, remote, peaceful, quiet, and clean. A house cleaner comes once a week to clean/organize and there are laundry facilities on site. Steve’s driver, Jorge, picked me up from the airport, and the roundtrip transportation to Steve’s facility was seamless and easy. My San Pedro journey consisted of 12 drink days. The experience with Steve and the medicine was positive and life changing. I came home as a different person with peace in my heart/mind/spirit. A shift in my perspective was something I had attempted on my own, but I struggled to shift my perspective regarding certain life experiences due to the severity of the trauma. San Pedro helped me make the necessary perspective shifts for my inner peace and positive future outlook — something I started wondering was ever possible. Let me assure you, it is possible! Sometimes we just need a little help in our healing journey, but finding a safe practitioner is KEY when working with plant medicine. Steve is a professional, classy, wise, compassionate, and kind man. I felt 100 percent safe and respected while working with Steve at his facility (emotionally, spiritually, and physically) . I overall felt 100 percent supported in my healing journey. It was obvious by his actions Steve cares for his clients, and there is a deep respect for the San Pedro medicine at this facility.   Steve has a background in counseling with a specialization in childhood trauma and alcoholic addictions. If the participant is open to it, Steve has a journaling process one can utilize while on the San Pedro medicine. One of the very many beauties of San Pedro is how it reveals the truth with crystal clear clarity and much love. Sometimes we are overwhelmed in the memories of our trauma, and I found the journaling exercise paramount in my healing. The combination of San Pedro and Steve’s journaling technique skyrocketed my healing and helped me reframe traumatic events in my life. The combination of San Pedro and the journaling accelerated me in connecting dots in my life, and after connecting those dots, I was able to shift my perspective in a way that benefited a healthy mindset and healthy emotional base. Honestly, I can’t express in words the peace and clarity I feel in my heart and my mind after working with Steve and his San Pedro brew. Because I had so much trauma, for me it was essential to stay at least 30 days. The first two weeks (six drinks) of San Pedro were the hardest as each journey revealed trauma to be reframed and healed. Once I passed the two-week mark, San Pedro delivered its namesake: I went to the gates of Heaven and learned/healed in the higher realms. At this point I was only working with the medicine and not combining the journaling as I had burst through inner obstacles. My entire visit felt like I was held in the arms of love, not just in the San Pedro medicine itself, but also by Steve and his lovely partner Samay. Samay cooks the most delicious meals. I loved the fresh vegetable soups, garlic bread, fresh juice, fresh fruit bowls, meatloaf, and chicken tacos on the off medicine days. Samay’s bliss bars were pretty darn blissful! Also, on the really hard days, being brought a cup of hot chocolate with marshmallows felt like a hug from the Divine Mother. Samay is a wise woman, and I’ll be forever grateful for the long talks and guidance. Samay’s heart is beautiful, and I appreciated her sensitivity and nurturing nature. Both Steve and Samay listened to me whenever I needed to express a difficult thought/memory. I never felt like a burden. I felt heard and truly cared for while at this facility. They are both humble people who do this work not for the money as much as for the service in utilizing the San Pedro medicine and providing a safe place to journey and heal. On a side note, Steve’s massages are literally the best I’ve ever had. In fact, on my last day of massage I was actually very sad because I knew the best massage of my life was about to end and how could I ever top that massage in this lifetime? I literally felt like I was floating and being infused with the most beautiful healing white light. Steve has apprenticed in San Pedro medicine, has years of service under his belt, and he is the real deal. His facility is affordable and his San Pedro brew is freshly made on site and is very powerful. If you’re looking to heal under the love and care of the San Pedro medicine and are seeking a safe practitioner to guide you, I would highly refer you to Steve’s San Pedro Workshops.  With commitment and discipline combined with the healing of this sacred plant medicine, you’ll leave with a rebuilt and renewed heart, confidence, inner peace, healing, and a love for Steve and Samay. It was hard saying goodbye. By the end of my trip these lovely people felt like family. I wish you — the reader — the best in your healing. Doing this San Pedro retreat was the best gift I’ve given myself. I recommend bringing a thick journal to write out all the details of each ceremony journey on off days. It’s amazing how all the ceremonies tie together and unfold as a beautiful tapestry of one’s healing. The intelligence of the San Pedro cactus spirit is remarkable! Thank you Steve and Samay for helping me on my healing journey.
