Los Cielos Peru

is a Non-Profit Center located 26 Km outside the jungle city of Pucallpa, Peru. We offer 3-7, 10, & 18 Day Ayahuasca & Kambo Retreats and an Apprenticeship Immersion Program. Come join us today and lift up your soul to fly with us!

Los Cielos was started in 2010 as a collaboration of both Peruvian and N. Americans with an interest in cultivating and disseminating the use, history, traditions, and healing of the Amazonian plant curing system. We have collaborated with some of the best shamans in the entire Amazon, and our retreat center location was carefully designed to provide the most impeccable platform possible for holding retreats to heal and teach in these ways. We searched through all of Peru to finally decide on Pucallpa, in the Ucayali Rio region of north-east Peru. This area is known to have the strongest Ayahuasca vine in all the Amazon and has produced and nurtured the long careers of some of the worlds most well-known shamans.

Los Cielos Botanical Sanctuary retreat is located about 1 hour via roadway outside of Pucallpa, Peru. We sit in the “Campo Verde” part of the Las Americas village system. We are very close to the infamous San Francisco Shipibo settlement, and are surrounded by many others throughout the jungle. We are truly in the heart of the Peruvian Amazon, immersed on all sides by the culture of ayahuasca.

After travelling the world, and being healed in the traditions of dozens of indigenous tribes worldwide, our founders ended their search for the world’s most adept and ultimate healing plants here in the Amazon. We envisioned a place where people from all over the world could come and get a traditional, authentic, rustic experience of being isolated deep in the jungle – and yet one where basic facilities were ensured to provide a safe, sanitary experience, so that it is easiest to let down all layers of defense and receive of the healing frequencies exuded by the plant maestras most completely. A place with clean water to drink, with no buses driving by or even airplanes overhead, and only the chirps and coos of the animals and insects to seduce our inner imaginations. A place where the living heartbeat of this earth, in its most profoundly raw and unchanged form, may still be felt when one is silent in the forest. A place where life transformations will unravel gracefully and give inspiration and vision to all.

Here at Los Cielos we offer our guests authentic, organic experiences which connect us with the living heart of Pachamama. Come to experience the mystery of life unfolding with us deep in the jungles of Peru!

The Transformative Healing Process of Integrative Amazonian Curanderismo…

The main focus of the retreat is centered around the traditional healing sessions we will experience using various modalities, including; clay detoxing, flower and leaf baths, tobacco ceremony, ayahuasca ceremony, and group and personalized diets of other master plant teas. You will be encouraged to help in harvesting and preparing the remedies we use during the retreat, as well as selected herbs for personal use, if deemed necessary in addition to the group regimen.

Our daytime activities are selected to help enhance and deepen our experience. We will have group integrations after each Ayahuasca ceremony. One day we will paint our visions with one of our local, master visionary painters. Our activities will broaden the perspective of this work’s effect on our world, helping us to integrate our healing into our daily lives. Other daily activities may include visits from Shipibo hand crafters, jungle walks, etc.. The point is, we will not only progress through our inner realms, but part of the healing process will be bringing the newfound healing into tangible realms, where we can leverage it into our daily lives, re-training our habits and personalities toward health and wellbeing that lasts.

Every morning we wake together and share dieta tea at our daily Gentle Movement practice. As the plants will help unlock our mind and heart, so too our bodies must come undone to be rebuilt wiser, stronger, more efficient tools to carry the Light in the Universe. Through this practice we awaken our bodies through a grounding, restorative, yet expansive set of flowing movement. Easy enough for the first timer, with modifications to challenge the most advanced yogi.

During the retreat each participant’s body is also guided to relax and unwind into the process of unfoldment through guided bodywork. Generally Sylvie gives each participant one hour+ body mechanic tune-up. At select retreats we will have another masseuse available for varied modalities. (One massage is included in the 18 day, a la carte at other retreats, see exact retreat details.)

This Retreat will give your body a chance to be healed in ways not possible using only one practice alone could. The result of combining unpatterning practices along with training new platform uploads to our systems simultaneously, in all dimensions of the self, is a profound approach with unimaginable results for each one of us!

The retreat is strictly electronics free except for flashlights and use of cameras, although we encourage limited use. Having a two week e-detox alone will start calming and reseting our highly sensitive nervous systems in whole new ways. Get away from the wifi and get away from the humm, and find the beat of eternal life pulsing within.

In addition to the daily routines of wellbeing, there is a progression to the work we will complete. Over the course of your time at the retreat center we will work into and back out of, our most intimate healings. In order to accomplish the most effective, efficient, and permanent healing we have designed a program that utilizes the primary components of Amazonian medicine in a certain physical, emotional, and spiritual progression. This progression will allow us to first let down our guards, then open to the process, then receive of the immense healing available to each of us, and then to firmly seal and anchor these updates into our systems.

The Traditional Amazonian system will start off focusing on elimination and purification. On the first full day in the jungle we will start out by cleansing and eliminating with a traditional purge utilizing mapacho (black jungle tobacco) and piñon blanco. These are brewed up into a purgative tea, to cleanse the entire upper GI, stomach, and organs. This process is also protective to the entire energy field, a necessary factor for the opening that is about to come.

To begin the cleanse, we will also partake of full body, clay detox packs using local clay that we will harvest from nearby waterways. That afternoon we will receive plant baths, sopladas, and go on to partake in our first night of ayahuasca ceremony. Each ceremony day we will harvest, prepare, and administer floral plant baths to each participant, in the traditional manner.

During each day our activities will engage us to learn about many master plants of the jungle, as well as an immense number of medicinals. During the 18 day Intensives we will cook our own ayahuasca over 3 days, and use it in sacred ceremony for the second half of the retreat.

In total, we will have 8 Ayahuasca Ceremonies at the 18 Day, and 5 at the 10 day, along with 3 Kambo purges at each. The ceremonies will be lead by local master shamans, along with Sylvie, and are of course fully translated. Every morning after a ceremony we will join in the maloka for group integration, to share more of our individual and collective experiences, and to gain insights from our own reflections within each other’s perspectives.

During the course of the Retreat we will eat simple jungle dieta food and be partaking of different master plant concentrations to deepen our experience and allow the healing of ayahuasca, and the jungle herself, to penetrate us more fully. Starting a few days in, we will begin taking diet teas of master plants like una de gato, chuchuasa, tahuari, chiric sanango, or Bobinsana, as determined by the shamans and staff. These plants will allow our minds and bodies to more fully accept the healing from the ayahuasca, and teach us about ourselves deeply in the process. As we harvest, prepare, and consume these curative teas we will be building a solid foundation with these master plants. We will generally be giving 1-3 total plants to each group, for a few days each or more.

We will open and close our retreat with an intention ceremony. Through the progression of plant diets, ayahuasca ceremonies, integrations, opening body movement, and of course alongside the healing energies of the jungle, we will each go through a magical cycle of inner awakening. The retreat will be sealed and protected, so that these lessons learned are held fast within each of us, and we will prepare each participant to return to their lives renewed, rekindled, and inspired to go for it, creating the life that will fulfill them into abundance, and serve the highest good for all!

Everyone here at Los Cielos has experienced these changes in our lives, and it has been apparent to those around us along the way. We are overjoyed and humbled at the opportunity to make this offering to any who come. We are here to hold the space for you to make your own journey, into the center of your heart and back. We have set in place a platform that has been shown to provide a safe and effective outcome time and time again. It is our service to this work to share this great opportunity with anyone who is willing to let themselves enjoy the benefits of the healing potential that is around all beings, at all times. It is our prayer that through this work, we are all made more aware of the love and abundance that surrounds each one of us in all situations. And as we open our hearts to the Sacred, we learn to turn even what we thought would be our most inner poison, in fact, into very good medicine.

We look forward to guiding you through this process, using the plants as our teachers, guiding us to our lives’ most important healing work. Through the depths we may have to traverse, through the stars we may get to fly, and in the end we must turn inward to focus on the seed of our inspiration, that it may grow up and into the light, where all comes from and returns. It is our intent to help you find these seeds and get them growing with vigor and beauty! What these seeds are and how the fruits will taste is an exciting journey of mystery for us each. May this earth be covered in the beauty of our mysteries’ unfoldment.

Meet some of the Amazons’ most powerful, yet humble Shamans…

We take great pride in developing lasting relationships with everyone we work with. Our center is proud to be supported and desired by many incredible local shamans. While Isabel and Orlando are our main shamans for most retreats, occassionally we will have a guest. Each curandero is of course specifically adept at their own unique abilities, and the synergy between these amazing healers can really make for some powerful ceremony. With so much respect for their traditions and lineages, we are delighted to work with and learn from each of these incredible healers.

During the retreat each the shamans and our Facilitation team work fluidly together to allow each shaman to flourish and express their own unique talents during ceremony, while also all working togther to create a unified energy to guide and protect the group all night long.

We are very proud to be working closely at this time with Dona Rocio Isamani, and occasionally with Maestra Isabel Vargas or Don Orlando Mateo. Read their bios below.

Dona Rocio Isamani

Rocio was born in Santa Rosita, near Pucallpa, Peru and descends from a family of Shipibo Shamans. Her first mentor was her grandfather, Esteban Melendez, she was merely 9 years old. After her grandfather’s teachings she began to work and learn from her mother and step father – both Shamans – who were her teachers up until their final passing in 2011. It’s fair to stay that her life has a been a succession of mentors and teachers all under the Shipibo tradition. She has been studying and learning from many teachers for over 30 years. During those 30 years she’s worked with people from all over the world who come to Peru for healing as well as her fellow Peruvians. She’s worked on healing a plethora of diseases as well as with people from a vast array of social backgrounds, ages and demographics.

She personally has worked with dietas of many plants, her longest one was for 4 years. She’s worked arduously with plants and “palos” opening her visions and capacity to connect with you, the medicine, the songs for your healing.

Rocio has five children who live in Pucallpa and has recently become a grandmother. Her two sons have followed in the family traditions and are practicing Shamans, who occasional pay us a visit for a night or two.

Maestra Isabel Vargas

Serving as our primary shaman, we are delighted and honored to work with Isabel Vargas (younger sister of very famous Elisa Vargas), a dedicated shaman in a thousand year old lineage of Shipiba curanderas. Isabel, now in her late 40’s is full of respect and servitude to these ways, and teaches her wisdom through gentle resilience. Having grown up in a family of pure Shipibo curanderas, she has been inherited with a lifestyle saturated in Ayahuasca since birth. Her icaros date back hundreds of years and allow the curing of the medicine to enter more deeply into the cavities of the body, where the most immaculate transformations may occur. Isabel leads us in mapacho ceremony as well, where we purify our bodies to make a vessel capable to receiving the immense healings to come. A beautiful and compassionate soul, Isabel offers her generational wisdom, taking us to the heart of the traditional Shipibo ayahuasca experience.

Maestro Orlando Magin Matros

Orlando is Shaman who has dedicated his life’s work to the curing all his global family with the plants of the Amazonian selva. A pure-hearted Shaman of the Etnia Shipibo, Orlando is 50 years old. He has worked with ayahuasca now for 27 years. When very young he was pulled from a boat by a crocodile which ate part of his hand and nearly crushed his skull while holding him underwater (this is why his face is scarred). He underwent a shamanic initiation in this experience, and miraculously survived. From this moment on he knew he would learn to be a shaman, like is father and grandfather. He works with all types of conditions from physical, emotional, to spiritual and helps to determine specific plants for clients when needed in addition to our basic group diet. He says, “I work with love for all I help and to make the most positive world for all us as we share this life.”

I’ve been working with Sylvie for years. I have been at Los Cielos pretty much yearly for almost 7 years. I can’t recommend them more. If you’re ready to show up for yourself and dive deep this is the place. I’ve been many places both in and out of the Amazon. I have encountered so many beings on so many levels of healing. Those engaged and ready and those who are not. I have been facilitating for almost 20 years. I can tell you with a lot of experience that these guys work hard to meet everyone where they’re at. I have repeatedly been present to them supporting people through so much. They are down to earth and provide a beautiful container for anyone to do their work. Teolinda, the maestra is a powerhouse and a wealth of knowledge. Tyler and Sylvie work diligently to support their community, the shipibo and the Amazon Forest. If you’re called and you are really ready definitely check these guys out.

Awful. Just plain awful experience with the owners of this place Sylvie and Tyler. I wish I had read the review someone else wrote which is a total red flag. It’s someone else’s review you can read if you scroll down. After my stay at Los Cielos, I know that whoever wrote that review is telling the truth. The owners are bullies, passive aggressive and the list goes on. I just don’t want to put energy on typing because honestly it was bizarre. Really don’t recommend this place to no one. Specially if you go alone!
    Money greedy….no good vibes. Yikes.
Just know that the owner got sexual with a guest because Ayahuasca said so (??!) ….enough said! Yeah, that’s the review I wish I read before paying this awful guys so much money.

If you want a place to really heal, this is it. Theolinda, the shaman is the real deal. She is full of compassion, integrity, and strength. I have been to other centers in Peru where owners and shamans alike are only interested in the money. Not here. The owners Sylvie and Tyler are truly concerned about your healing process, offering different medicines depending on what you need, and helping you with the integration process. I enjoyed the food, it’s delicious and healthy even though I was on dieta, I never felt like I was missing out. The rooms and beds are very comfortable, nestled on the edge of the jungle. I’ve been back a number of times. And this is the only place I will go to for ayahuasca.

We’ve been immersed in the ongoing war in Europe, the tragic pullout of Afghanistan, Global Warming, violence, inflation, a looming recession, weak leadership, increased crime, active shooter incidents, road-rage, and the hectic grind of daily life in a “civilized” society. No wonder feelings of apathy and despair linger! I thought I’d seen and done it all. Then fate led me to a special oasis, the Ayahuasca retreat at Los Cielos, Peru, in the Amazon; the eye in the middle of a churning storm. I didn’t even know how to spell “Ayahuasca.” In the back of my mind, I hoped to possibly see my beloved mother during a Ayahuasca ceremony. Born and raised in Peru, she passed nine years earlier after her mind was ravaged by Alzheimer’s disease. Being a proud, in control, former US Marine, slightly right of center line, I was the antithesis of the type person that an Ayahuasca retreat typically attracts. However, after 30 days there I realized that it was exactly the type of experience my body, mind and spirit had been craving. It also validated how well The Corps prepared me for such a retreat and how spiritual the Marines really is. Los Cielos is a wonderful place for virtually anyone looking to better themselves even if hailing from the comforts of a first-world existence. Los Cielos is led – and I do mean as in a leader – by owner and retreat director, Sylvie Joy Meier. She’s a true believer, the heart and soul of the retreat. She’s sincere and possesses the capacity for feeling love for her fellow human beings that is immeasurable. Experienced and a knowledgeable, capable, worldly woman with massive, mental constitution who possesses prudent judgement, she is the thesis of why Los Cielos is the real-deal. It’s as authentic as it gets. Reasonably priced and focusing on small groups, you will receive the personal attention, love and support from Sylvie, the seemingly holy Maestro Segundo and Maestra Teolinda, Sylvie’s husband Tyler, and her dedicated staff. You simply will not find this level of dedication and commitment to your health and well-being at any other retreat. You will also share in the extraordinary stories and learn from your fellow guests. I learned to value the privilege of listening to some of their most guarded secrets. Their candor established a bond not so dissimilar to family. Despite the heat, humidity, heavy downpours, and semi-Spartan living conditions, a familial air of integrity, mutual respect, courtesy, support, love and a lot of humor will nourish you to your soul. Except for those DAMNED Amazonian no-see-em’s and mosquitoes, HATE does not reside in Los Cielos! I opted for the 30-day retreat – featuring a 30-day “dieta.” This adds a significant layer to the two-week retreat (which is great) that many people only have the time to invest. Mitigating the effects of constant hunger, you truly feel among family who are there to encourage you, not criticize or judge you. For me, this replenished the nourishment that my body craved from the Dieta. At the end of my month, Tyler led a small group of us on a fun, wonderful day of sightseeing in sleepy Pucallpa. After a memorable river boat trip; being humbled by the pure innocence of the indigenous people; celebrating the end of my Dieta by savoring the most amazing explosion of flavors from reasonably priced, local cuisine; and a comfortable night in a hotel; I flew to Lima. There, I was able to sightsee some more before flying back home only to shovel snow for four hours. I craved the nurturing warmth of Los Cielos. I almost missed the mosquitoes . . . almost. Disclaimer, if you’re looking for a commercial, one-size-fits-all, factory where people pay too much money to be corralled through an Ayahuasca retreat – much like the pedestrian traffic jams atop Mt Everest solely to check-off a bucket list item – this is NOT the retreat for you. Club Med this place is not. By design the Los Cielos experience isn’t intended to be a resort. You’ll get out of your sojourn exactly what you put into it. The reward from choosing such an authentic retreat is that it facilitates true personal development and healing. Sometimes even mystical and magical things happen. No different than anything of substance, a life-altering experience only comes from much commitment, persistence, discipline, introspection and hard work. I jokingly thought of Los Cielos as “the Marine Corps” of the Ayahuasca retreats. It’s small and lean, low on superficial frills and window dressing, but very high on substance, and it packs a mean punch! As I’ve integrated back to my normal life, I’ve strived to keep the valuable lessons-learned part of my daily regime. In hindsight, I realize how important traveling to the Amazon to search for my mother played in my reasons for going to Los Cielos. Besides one indirect communication with her through Maestro Segundo and Maestra Teolinda during the first ceremony, I never actually saw her. Toward the end of the very last ceremony I sensed her calling me. Anxious, I floated along a dirt path leading into the tree-line to finally see her again! Then I suddenly lost focus. The jungle trail blurred as I reached out with my hand and called to her to wait for her son. But the vision faded back into the dark jungle. Fairly lucid, I instead concentrated on the Maestro’s and Maestra’s woven Icaros’s while being caressed by a state of melancholy. Since returning home I’ve realized that although I didn’t directly connect with my mother, knowing her selfless love for her children she may have negotiated with Ayahuasca asking her to instead focus on other pressing issues that I needed to personally address, which I did. The trade-off is bitter-sweet. During evenings at the retreat, I’d routinely ask fellow guests what they’d be doing at that exact moment if they were back home? Sometimes at night my thoughts drift back to the Amazon. Soothed by the melodic, ancient codes sung by Segundo and Teolinda, I envision Sylvie sitting during ceremony in near-total darkness. I know she is among an amazing circle of people who are focusing on their journeys while sometimes wrestling their demons. But I know they are also supporting each other much as a loving family should. The image makes me smile while I wish them, “good night.”

A month ago I treated myself to 2 weeks in the Amazon at Los Cielos. It changed my life forever. I celebrated my 30th Solar Return in Ceremony with a tribe of beautiful souls. Everyone held such scared and safe space for me. I was prayed for for over 30 hours during my time there. And I learned a lot more than just what Aya had to teach me. It was there in the Amazon that I learned the importance of presence, peace, the breath, and conscious choices. The people I met there were just as if not more important than the medicine. They passed along wisdom that I needed to remember. Sylvie and Tyler – the owners – I am forever grateful for for their facilitating, love, kindness, presence, and care. I’ll be back in the near future to sit in this beautiful space they’ve created to do more great healing work.

Wow, I spent 2 weeks at los Cielos and had such a profound experience. Sylvie and Tyler have created such a beautiful and sacred place for soul level healing. I am still in awe of my time spent at los Cielos and will forever hold this healing and transformational experience close to my heart, I am truly not the same the person in so many fundamental ways. Their staff is so sweet and all my needs were more than taken care of. During my time there and in ceremony i could feel how in integrity the space was held and the immense devotion that the maestros and the los Cielos community have for their people. I would describe them and their ceremonial space as, “the real deal”. Couldn’t recommend them enough. I look forward to coming back for a longer dieta and stay.

I recently completed a 2 month Dieta at Los Cielos. I am an experienced dietero and have had so many varying experiences in dieta and with Ayahuasca in large retreat settings, basic settings in the jungle with the indigenous and solo at home. I contacted Sylvie some time last year and expressed my desire to go in to more Master Plant Dieta and be held in a place of community and learning in the jungle. I felt called to return to the source. My past experiences were good in the past, but I was looking to go deep and be supported, but also free of the energy of others and their process or the subtle and distracting energy of pueblos with so much need it is hard to concentrate. I was looking for family, for support, for understanding and for someone with a deep connection to guide me through my dieta as well as strong and dedicated curanderas. There is a very special way that Tyler and Sylvie have partnered with the Shipibo Maestras that spoke to me and I was drawn to this place. I am so glad I found Sylvie and Los Cielos. I unpacked years of subtle vilolence and shame against my person. I am forever changed. I was able to go deep in to my exploration and relationship to my plant guide and got much needed support and understanding of this very diverse and complex system of healing through plants from Sylvie. Teolinda and Segundo were incredibly present and their dedication to their work day in and day out really stood out to me. These are some of the most loving and supportive beings I have met. The entire place and the people working there are deeply sweet people and I felt so supported in the deepest dieta. I look forward to more! My deepest gratitude to the plants, to Teolinda and Segundo, To everyone at Los Cielos and to Sylvie who really was the light in my storms. I highly recommend this experience.

    Warning: Sexual Misconduct /Abuse

Please be cautioned: Los Cielos Peru is not a safe retreat center for Plant Medicine and Healing. They do not operate with integrity, accountability or transparency. I experienced Sexual Misconduct while on an 18 day paid personal retreat. First, with Owner / Facilitator Tyler C Olson Meier, in the Maloka, at the end of an Ayahuasca Ceremony and, later that night in my casita. Then, from day 9 or 10 everyday Sexual encounters took place before and after ceremonies together, with both Tyler and his wife, Owner / Facilitator Sylvie Joy Olson Meier. I’ve been told “allegedly” that they believe they can heal other’s with sex. On an audio message, Tyler states, “Aya said it needed to happen” regarding the first inciting incident.

Disturbingly, after more than 2 years, they have continued to gaslight and deny any correcting or reparative steps, like the processing or Therapy they had held out initially, then refused to follow-thru, in response to the harm and being a “victim” to sexual misconduct, that Sylvie had admitted and written.

There is a glaring hypocrisy for the business and leadership of Los Cielos, extending their image as transformational, healing, supportive, and more, while burying any accountability for the trauma they incited and participated. They are not organized around conditions of healing, including safety and repair. Remember: Usually, those with good intentions seek to resolve for the good of all.

Please be aware that ultimately you are a transactional agenda for Los Cielos, regardless of any “glowing” reviews. Your vulnerability puts you at risk if you find yourself in my position, where significant ethical and integrity boundaries were crossed, sexual and more. They are not Trauma-Informed. If ruptures occur, they offer no outside resources, neutral parties to support etc. In fact, they had made a threat, gaslit, and further “cancelled” me, when I illuminated the harm and actions. They do not hold the growth capacity needed to acknowledge and address their dehumanizing digressions, nor their own shadows…

Further, and beyond the scope of this review to detail, I spent more than one year at Los Cielos. In this time, I experienced extreme volatility, manipulation, transactional and emotional abuse and dangerous and reckless Dietas and plant medicine. It is difficult in a review to speak to the nuances, toxicity and layers. Or, capture the consequences in full, of being whiplashed in and out of many overlapping and dysfunctional dynamics. It felt “cult-like” at times, abandoning myself more and more over time, to take on different roles, sexual, hidden away “girlfriend”, and otherwise. Control behaviors and tactics were both overt and insidious.

Please allow discernment and intuition when considering the Plant Medicine Retreat Center for you. Unfortunately, abuse is not uncommon in Peru, and does not just happen from Male to Female. Ask lots of questions. Especially, about integration support, past ruptures and responses, safety, trauma-informed, sexual misconduct and transparency etc.

Ultimately, everything is an opportunity and lesson….Know, that self-responsibility for healing should never be weaponized. One truth, does not negate another. Someone else’s harmful (traumatic) actions and behaviors are not eliminated by your responsibility to heal the new trauma incurred. (make meaning from the trauma) Platitudes like “More Love, not Less”, Or, “Elevating Human Sovereignty” ones used by Los Cielos Peru, are just that, Platitudes…mere projections, disembodied from reality and empty in application and spirit.

Lovely retreat! It was so peaceful to be in the middle of the jungle. Sylvie is an accomplished Ayahuasca practitioner and ceremonies are conducted in a safe manner. The Maestra/Maestro are great healers. I came for two weeks but extended to three as it was a really good experience. I can wholeheartedly recommend this retreat. \r\nHelene
