Gaia Sagrada in the spectacular and picturesque Andes, located just an hour outside of Cuenca. The buildings and grounds are beautiful. The landscaping is a spectacular floral display that has been orchestrated by a lovely Australian woman, Edith, who tends to others as much as she does to the gardens. Gaia Sagrada provides a space for the promotion of a new community and a unique venue for self exploration through ritualistic ingestion of the sacred medicines, Ayahuasca and San Pedro. The medicines are administered under the expert supervision of authentic shamans. Perhaps the most unique aspect of the venue is that the participants are deeply invested in the healing of one another. There are several meetings in which Christine, the co-owner and facilitator, assists the participants in divulging the issues that they have come here to heal. This process creates a transparency and authenticity among participants.
We were here on a work exchange and our primary duty was to prepare food for the retreat. We worked in a well-appointed kitchen cooking up tasty vegan and vegetarian cuisine. We were supplied with what was needed often by co-owner Bruce. His buoyant, efficient and friendly presence was a welcome visitation to the kitchen. The kitchen became a hub of activity once the retreat began. One of the primary activities there was the processing of the participant?s sacred journeys. Friendships deepened as participants candidly exposed their experience and aided one another in unravelling the deep meanings brought forth by their journeys. The ambience in the space was one of intense yet light hearted inquiry. We found ourselves involved in many lively and psychologically profound dialogues. It became obvious that conversing over food deepened friendships, spiritual awareness and healing. We also assisted during some of the ceremonies, witnessing the experiences that the sacred medicines were providing.
I noticed progressive changes in all of the participants as the retreat continued. By the end of it some people seemed totally transformed and everyone reported positive progress in their healing. I highly recommend this venue for anyone who is seeking self realization, a new community, or a place to rest from the crazy world.
